Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant

Academics are currently looking for temporary Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistants for short and long term supporting roles within our partnership primary schools and SEN provisions. Working across Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding areas can be diversified, meaning that we do have different requirements to suit.

Our temporary opportunities are ideal for SEN Teaching Assistants who are seeking varied experience in a variety of schools. a work-life balance, or those returning to the workforce on a full or part-time flexible basis.

Responsibilities of a Special Education Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

• Providing high quality 1:1 and/or small group support/interventions for learners who have with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language needs, SEMH, and other learning difficulties.
• Support learners to develop essential skills, build social connections, and engage actively in learning.
• Implement tailored strategies to promote emotional regulation, resilience, and independence.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, and external agencies when needed.
• Assisting the class teacher in adapting classroom activities and resources.
• Managing behaviour and engaging learners with their own learning.
• The ability to create and foster an inclusive and safe learning environment for all of the learners within your class and the wider school community.

For this role, applicants who apply must have:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable.
• Calm, resilient, and to be able to remain consistent under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to build trusting relationships and implement clear structures and routines.
• Empathetic, flexible, and committed to long-term support for the learner(s).
• A good level of literacy and numeracy skills.
• A current Enhanced DBS that is registered with the Update Service, or you will be prepared to apply for a new DBS with ourselves (cost applied).

Please be aware that your daily rate will be dependent upon experience, prior qualifications, training, and the client rate that is currently available.
