Position: Primary Teaching Assistant - SEMH Location: Waltham Forest Contract: ASAP - July 2027, with potential to go permanent Pay: £93-£120 per day Start Date: ASAP

The Role As an SEMH Teaching Assistant in Waltham Forest, you will provide support to pupils who may need additional help with emotional regulation, behaviour, confidence and engagement. You will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team, helping pupils access learning while developing positive relationships and strategies that encourage independence.

Key responsibilities include: Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour Building trusting relationships with pupils Helping children engage positively with learning and classroom routines Supporting pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence Working alongside teachers and the wider pastoral/SEN team Helping maintain a calm, safe and inclusive classroom environment What We're Looking For Previous experience supporting children with SEMH, behavioural or emotional needs A patient, calm and nurturing approach Strong communication and relationship-building skills Confidence managing challenging behaviour positively Experience working within a primary school is desirable Someone proactive, reliable and committed to supporting children's development The school is also conveniently located, with good accessibility and parking options nearby, making it a practical choice for staff travelling by car as well as those using local transport links.
