Education:
Other trades certificate or diploma. or equivalent experience.

Tasks:
- Compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of workpieces .
- Inspect final products.
- Set up machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders.
- Test prototypes and production tools.
- Instruct apprentices.
- Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Program CNC machine tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications.
- Realize machine castings to make metal molds, core boxes and precisely shaped models.
- Set up and operate electrical discharge machines (EDM).
- Lay out, shape and assemble patterns of metal, wood, plastic and other materials from blueprints, models or templates.
- Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining.
- Set up and operate conventional and computer controlled machine tools.
Computer and technology knowledge:
AutoCAD.
Specialized machining processes:
Plasma ARC. Laser beam. Water jet.
Metal mould-making experience:
Blow moulds. Injection moulds. Compression moulds. Transfer moulds. Rotational moulds. Thermal forming moulds. Vacuum forming moulds.
Patternmaking experience:
Metal patternmaking. Core boxes. Production pattern equipment. Plastics patternmaking.
Tool and die fabrication experience:
Gauge blocks. Jigs and fixtures. Metal cutting, forming or bending dies. Compound or progressive transfer dies. Forging die. Extrusion dies.
Security and safety:
Bondable.
Transportation/travel information:
Valid driver's licence. Own transportation.
Work conditions and physical capabilities:
Fast-paced environment. Handling heavy loads. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Standing for extended periods.
Own tools/equipment:
Steel-toed safety boots.
