Patent Engineer

Role purpose

Protect the Singapore company’s inventions and help R&D identify patent risks early in product development. The Patent Engineer drafts new patent applications, assesses potential conflicts with competitors’ patents, evaluates possible infringement of company patents, and supports patent disputes.

Key responsibilities

• Patent drafting and prosecution. Draft new patent applications to build a portfolio that protects the company’s technology. Prepare responses to patent office actions.
• Patent risk assessment. Review new products against competitors’ patents, identify potential restrictions early, and recommend design changes or other ways to reduce the risk.
• Infringement analysis. Assess whether competitors’ products may infringe the company’s patents and document the technical basis for the assessment.
• Competitive patent intelligence. Review competitors’ recent patents and share technology trends with R&D. Prepare industry patent landscape reports.
• Patent disputes. Support the defence of company patents against invalidity challenges and assist with challenges to competitors’ patents where appropriate.
