Lead Mechanical Design Engineer
Do you want to take on a leading technical role and work with robust mechanical designs at the forefront of technology? We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer for a high-tech industrial company in Västerås.
In this role, you will have overall technical responsibility within tool design, where custom-made tools and equipment are developed for disassembly and handling in complex industrial environments. You will lead the design work forward, support other designers, and ensure that technical solutions maintain the correct level regarding function, strength, safety, and manufacturability.
You will work through the entire chain – from concept and technical choices to detailed design, prototype, testing, manufacturing, and finished product. The work takes place close to project management, technicians, and production.
Work Tasks
- Lead and coordinate the technical design work in projects
- Drive concept development and technical choices
- Support and guide designers
- Develop robust tools and equipment for, among other things, cutting, assembly, and lifting
- Ensure design, material selection, strength, and manufacturability
- Participate in design reviews, testing, prototype development, and improvement work
- Serve as the technical contact point for project management, production, and other functions
Your Profile We are looking for you who is a mechanical designer and who enjoys combining your own technical work with leading the design forward. You are practical, solution-oriented, and confident in making and anchoring technical decisions.
You have experience in mechanical design and design for manufacturing, as well as a good understanding of materials, strength, and manufacturing methods. Experience from heavy industry is particularly relevant. Knowledge in areas such as hydraulics, welded structures, or tool design is meritorious.
We would prefer if you have previously held a role as Lead Engineer, Technical Lead, Lead Designer, or equivalent, or alternatively, are an experienced designer who is ready to take the next step with greater technical responsibility.
English is a requirement and Swedish is an advantage. The role is subject to export control.
