7 SAILS TRADING PTE. LTD. processes and wholesales meat products sourced from overseas markets, including Australia, Brazil and New Zealand. The company is developing opportunities to expand sales of meat products processed in Singapore to selected international markets, including Gulf countries.

Job Summary

The Commercial Strategist will support the company’s commercial planning, financial analysis and international market development. The successful candidate will work across management, finance, production and logistics functions to evaluate commercial opportunities, develop pricing and market-entry strategies, assess financial viability and support the development of overseas customer and distributor relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and recommend commercial strategies to support the company’s processing, wholesale and international market expansion activities.
  • Analyse existing business operations and potential growth opportunities and provide data-driven commercial recommendations to management.
  • Develop commercial plans covering sales growth, pricing, customer development, market expansion and profitability.
  • Evaluate potential markets, customer segments and distribution channels based on commercial viability, costs, margins and operational capacity.
  • Translate management’s business objectives into measurable commercial initiatives, forecasts and implementation plans.

Financial & Commercial Analysis

  • Prepare and analyse budgets, cash-flow forecasts, sales forecasts and commercial performance reports.
  • Analyse purchase prices, processing and storage costs, freight, selling prices, gross margins and working-capital requirements.
  • Develop financial models and scenario analyses to evaluate commercial opportunities and international transactions.
  • Recommend sustainable pricing structures and payment terms based on cost analysis, target margins and market conditions.
  • Monitor margins, receivables, supplier commitments and other financial factors affecting commercial transactions.
  • Identify material financial or commercial variances and coordinate with accounting teams or external accountants where required.

International Market Development

  • Research and evaluate potential overseas markets for meat products processed in Singapore, including selected Gulf markets.
  • Identify prospective business customers, importers, distributors and commercial partners in target markets.
  • Assess potential market-entry approaches and recommend appropriate customer-development and distribution strategies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with prospective overseas customers and commercial partners.
  • Support commercial discussions concerning product requirements, quantities, pricing, payment terms and delivery arrangements.
  • Prepare commercial proposals and financial assessments for international business opportunities.

Supplier & Customer Commercial Management

  • Liaise with overseas suppliers on pricing, payment terms, supply planning and other commercial matters.
  • Analyse supplier terms and purchasing arrangements to identify opportunities for margin, cash-flow and supply-efficiency improvements.
  • Evaluate customer enquiries and commercial proposals before commitments are made.
  • Develop pricing and negotiation strategies for key customers and commercial opportunities.
  • Monitor customer and supplier commercial performance and identify emerging opportunities and risks.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate with production and logistics teams to assess processing capacity, product costs, inventory requirements and delivery feasibility.
  • Coordinate commercial planning with operational capabilities before recommending customer or market commitments.
  • Work with responsible internal teams and professional advisers to confirm relevant export documentation and destination-market requirements before shipments are agreed.
  • Maintain structured records of commercial proposals, financial assumptions, negotiations, approvals and strategic recommendations.
  • Present commercial analyses, forecasts, market-development progress and recommendations to management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance, Business, Commerce or a related discipline, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in commercial strategy, commercial management, financial analysis, trading operations, international business development or related commercial functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse cash flow, costs, pricing, margins and financial forecasts and translate the findings into commercial recommendations.
  • Experience developing or implementing commercial strategies involving pricing, customer development, business growth or market expansion.
  • Experience dealing directly with suppliers, business customers, distributors or other commercial counterparties.
  • Strong analytical, financial modelling, spreadsheet, reporting, communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively across finance, production, logistics and management functions.

Preferred Competencies

  • Experience in food processing, wholesale trade, international trading or cross-border commercial transactions.
  • Experience working with overseas business customers, distributors or commercial partners.
  • Experience working with business customers, distributors or commercial partners in Gulf countries would be an advantage.
