Research Assistant in Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education within the subject of chemistry. The department has 270 employees and a turnover of 300 million SEK. At the department's six programs, very successful research of high international class is conducted. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international collaboration, and we see continued good growth within our subject area. Tasks:
Development of new liquid electrolytes for sodium-ion batteries. Testing of electrolytes' physical properties. Electrochemical testing of model systems for sodium-ion batteries to investigate the properties of the SEI layer. Construction, cycling, and characterization of commercial sodium-ion batteries. Planning and organizing projects independently, including analysis of results and communication with academic partners.
Qualification requirements:
For the employment, the following is required:
Master's degree in materials science or equivalent. Previous experience with sodium-ion battery cells, electrochemical cycling methods (cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic cycling), as well as general battery assembly (manufacturing of pouch and button cells as well as preparation of electrolytes). Experience in material characterization (e.g., XRD). Previous experience in physical characterization of liquid electrolytes. Very good ability to communicate orally and in writing, document data, and present results. Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and communicate results to academic partners. Very good collaborative skills and social competence, as well as a willingness to work as part of a larger research group.

Consideration will be given to good collaborative skills, drive, and independence, as well as how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to complement and strengthen the research within the department/institution and contribute to its future development.
About the employment
Fixed-term employment until 2026-12-12. The scope is full-time. Commencement 2026-09-01 or as agreed. Location: Uppsala
