Do you want to work with drug design supported by competent and pleasant colleagues in an international environment? Do you want an employer that invests in sustainable employee relations and offers secure, beneficial working conditions? Welcome to apply for a position as a researcher at Uppsala universitet.

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is divided into seven research programs, all focusing on different areas within cell and molecular biology: computational biology and bioinformatics, microbiology and immunology, molecular biology, molecular biophysics, molecular evolution, molecular systems biology, and structural biology. The scientific foundation of what we do lies in biology, but our research overlaps with other fields such as medicine, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, and physics. The department has over 200 employees with around 60 doctoral students. Please read more about the department's work at https://icm.uu.se.

The position will be located in Jens Carlsson's research group within the program for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. Jens Carlsson's research focuses on computational modeling of proteins with a particular focus on G-protein coupled receptors. Jens Carlsson's group uses modeling to understand how receptors function at a molecular level and develops methods to identify drug candidates, often in collaboration with experimental research groups. It is an international research team that is also part of Science for Life Laboratory (http://www.scilifelab.se/). More information about the group's research can be found on its website (www.carlssonlab.org).

Tasks

The research is focused on using molecular models to study how small molecules bind to enzymes that are relevant to the development of drugs for the treatment of cancer. The goal of the project is to develop new strategies for drug development. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with experimental research groups.

Qualification requirements

  • A doctoral degree in computational chemistry or a foreign degree assessed to correspond to a doctoral degree in the same field, as well as at least two years of experience in postdoctoral research.
  • Very good knowledge of computational chemistry, with extensive experience in virtual screening, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics simulations.
  • Good written and oral proficiency in English is a requirement, as the work takes place in an international environment.

We place great emphasis on personal qualities such as good teamwork skills, motivation, and independence.

Other desirable/merit qualifications

Previous experience from the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is strongly meritorious. Previous experience in modeling enzymes involved in DNA repair is meritorious.

About the employment

The employment is fixed-term for 12 months. The extent is full-time. Start date 2027-02-01 or as agreed. Location: Uppsala.

Information about the employment is provided by: Jens Carlsson, jens.carlsson@icm.uu.se, Tel: 072 227 7976.

Welcome with your application no later than October 5, 2026, UFV-PA 2026/2753.
