Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked as one of the world's leading academic institutions. There are approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees here in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our endeavor to understand, explain, and improve our world and human conditions.

Description of the workplace

Our research group at the Department of Physics, Division of Combustion Physics, focuses on developing optics-based techniques to study soot and other carbonaceous materials. Soot, which is formed during the incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons, has negative effects on both the climate and human health. Detecting soot and extensively characterizing its properties is crucial to understanding how it forms and transforms, and ultimately to being able to predict its impact on the environment and climate. We design, develop, and apply advanced optical techniques to characterize soot in different stages and environments – from laboratory flames to the atmosphere.
