Postdoctoral Researcher in translational lymphoma research
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked as one of the world's leading academic institutions. Here, there are approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our endeavor to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of human life.
Description of the workplace
The position is located at the Department of Immunoengineering at Medicon Village in Lund and is part of CREATE Health and Lund University's Cancer Center. The Department of Immunoengineering conducts research ranging from advanced technology development to biomedical studies. The main research areas include sensitization, immuno-oncology, and biomarkers.
The modern facilities are located at Medicon Village, where academic research is conducted alongside private companies and actors within the healthcare sector. A number of important infrastructures are available, including specialized laboratories for antibody development, flow cytometry, spatial omics, and mass spectrometry, as well as NBIS (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden). The department is also responsible for several student courses and offers high-quality education at undergraduate and advanced levels. Approximately 40 people work at the department. You will be part of a research group conducting translational lymphoma research with a focus on understanding tumor biology and the tumor microenvironment in lymphoid malignancies.
Special subject description
The research focus of the position lies within translational lymphoma research, with a particular focus on cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and high-grade B-cell lymphoma. The research group conducts experimental and translational studies using clinically well-characterized patient material in close collaboration with clinical researchers.
The research aims to improve the biological understanding of lymphoma by characterizing tumor cells, immune cells, and their spatial organization in the tumor microenvironment. We use spatial transcriptomics and spatial proteomics, advanced image analysis, as well as computational methods to study molecular and cellular heterogeneity and integrate spatial molecular information with histopathological and clinical data. We are now seeking a highly motivated postdoc with expertise in spatial omics, image analysis, and computational analysis of complex biological data.
A brief clarification of the subject of the employment can be provided through a special subject description that more closely describes and clarifies the research area(s) included. The special subject description is governing during the selection process.
Tasks and responsibilities
The tasks as a postdoc primarily involve conducting research. Teaching may also be included in the tasks, however, at most one-fifth of the working time. Within the framework of the employment, there is an opportunity for three weeks of higher education pedagogical training. The purpose of the employment is to develop one's independence as a researcher and to create conditions for further meritation.
The research task comprises a combination of experimental work, data analysis, as well as interpretation and presentation of research results. The main part of the work in the advertised position concerns translational studies of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and high-grade B-cell lymphoma. The research will focus on spatial transcriptomic and spatial proteomic analysis of patient-derived tissue, quantitative image analysis, and integration of molecular, spatial, histopathological, and clinical data. Computational and statistical analyses will primarily be conducted in R. The research is conducted in a multidisciplinary environment and in collaboration with clinical researchers and other relevant partners.
The tasks include:
Research within the subject area Teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students Active seeking of external research funding Collaboration with healthcare, industry, and/or the surrounding society Administration related to the above tasks
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a postdoc, one must have obtained a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree assessed to correspond to a doctoral degree, within the subject area of the employment. Proof that the eligibility requirements have been met must have been submitted no later than when the employment decision is made. Primarily, the candidate in question will have obtained their degree no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been obtained earlier.
Other requirements:
you have very good knowledge of English, both oral and written. you have obtained a doctoral degree in cell biology or immunology. you have a strong ability to initiate, develop, and conduct high-quality research. you have documented knowledge of lymphoma biology. you have documented practical experience in spatial transcriptomics and spatial proteomics. you have documented practical experience in high-plex image analysis of tissue. you have documented knowledge and practical experience of programming and data analysis in R. you have good communication skills and extensive documented experience in supervising degree projects. you have good collaborative skills, initiative, and the ability to solve tasks independently.
