Researcher in Fire Engineering with a focus on fire dynamics and material behavior
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked as one of the world's leading academic institutions. It is home to approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our endeavor to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of human life. Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Description of the workplace The Department of Building and Environmental Technology comprises several departments, of which the Department of Fire Engineering is one. Within the department, research and teaching are conducted related to society's need for infrastructure and construction. As part of this, consideration is also given to safety aspects and the development of methods to manage the consequences of fires and other similar accidents in society. Research in fire engineering refers to physical and chemical processes related to the onset, growth, spread, and extinguishment of fires, interactions between fire and buildings, facilities, natural resources, etc., systems to prevent or detect fire or limit its consequences, as well as evacuation and human behavior during a fire. Fire also refers to closely related types of accidents such as explosions or other reactive processes. The intention is to find cost-effective, sustainable, and innovative methods to keep damage to people, the environment, and property at an acceptable level. Work is usually conducted in small research groups linked to a specific subject area. However, the work is also characterized by an interdisciplinary approach with collaboration across subject boundaries and with colleagues in other departments within the university. The Department of Fire Engineering consists of about 20 researchers, doctoral students, and administrative staff. Most are based in Lund, but some also work from other locations, e.g., from Campus Helsingborg. The position covers the subject area of fire development and fire dynamics, with a particular focus on material behavior during fire as well as environmental and sustainability aspects. The subject area may also include modeling of fire dynamic phenomena in combination with the properties of building materials and the consequences of fires from a property protection perspective. Teaching may be included, and you may also have specific areas of responsibility within the department depending on your specific interests. The position offers the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education pedagogy. The purpose of the position is to conduct independent research and create conditions for further development. Participation in national and international conferences is also included in the position.
