PhD Student in Systemic Radiotherapy

Description of the workplace
As a PhD student, you will be part of the multidisciplinary research environment within MIPCART and the systemic radiotherapy operations at the Department of Oncology, Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University. The research activities are focused on the clinical and preclinical development of radionuclide therapy and advanced imaging methods, with a particular focus on prostate cancer and other aggressive cancers.

The research group is now seeking a full-time (100 %) PhD student starting on October 1st, 2026 (or by agreement).
Tasks and responsibilities
As a PhD student, your main task is to conduct doctoral training within projects aimed at developing and optimizing radionuclide therapy for prostate cancer and other cancers. The doctoral training is carried out through participation in various parts of the projects, whereby the PhD student progressively acquires knowledge of scientific methodology, experimental work, data analysis, and scientific communication.

Qualifications
For the position, the following is required:
A degree at an advanced level in molecular biology, biomedicine, or another related field deemed to be relevant to the doctoral training.
Knowledge of cell and molecular biology, tumor biology, or a related molecular biological field. Experience in molecular biological laboratory work. Ability and willingness to work with laboratory animals after required training. Very good ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing. Good collaborative skills, especially in interdisciplinary contexts.
Merit is:
Advanced courses in cancer biology, immunology, histology, pathology, molecular imaging, or radiation biology. Training in laboratory animal science or equivalent competence for working with laboratory animals. Experience with preclinical prostate cancer tumor models or other work with laboratory animals. Experience in histological sample preparation, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, microscopy, or related
image analysis.
Experience working with ionizing radiation, for example handling open radiation sources or radioactive
tissue samples.
Knowledge of cancer biology, radionuclide therapy, radiation biology, or molecular imaging.
Eligibility
Basic eligibility for doctoral studies is held by those who have: completed a degree at an advanced level, fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits are at an advanced level, or have otherwise acquired substantially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.
Basis for assessment
Provisions for employment as a PhD student are found in regulation SFS 1998:80. Only those admitted to doctoral studies may be appointed as holders. When making an appointment, primary attention shall be paid to the degree of ability to acquire the doctoral training. In addition to the obligation to engage in their own doctoral training, the holder may be required to perform duties involving education, research, and administrative work according to special provisions in the regulation.
Terms
Fixed-term employment for four years according to HF Chapter 5 Section 7.
