We are now seeking PhD students for the Network Security Group within EECS/CLS. We are looking for motivated individuals interested in research and doctoral education in security and privacy. The position involves activities that lead to independent research and result in peer-reviewed publications. The research areas may relate to any of the areas the NSS group works with (https://www.eecs. kth.se/nss).
The Network Security Group constructs and builds reliable network systems. Our research covers a wide spectrum of security, privacy, and networking problems. A number of our results have received great attention in the research community. Our teaching efforts lead to a new course area in security that we are introducing at KTH. Our work combines theoretical and experimental methods.
Supervision: Professor Panagiotis 'Panos' Papadimitratos is proposed to supervise the PhD student. Decision is made upon admission.
Eligibility for admission
To be admitted to doctoral studies (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance) the applicant must have basic eligibility:
a completed degree at an advanced level, or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits are at an advanced level, or in some other way, within or outside the country, acquired knowledge mainly corresponding to this.
In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to Engelska B/6.
Selection
To succeed in your doctoral studies at KTH, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work. During the selection of applicants, the ability to:
independently drive one's work forward, be able to collaborate with others, have a professional approach and analyze and work with complex issues. demonstrate documented experience in several of the following areas: datasäkerhet, integritetsbevarande eller integritetsförbättrande teknik, mobil datoranvändning, nätverk, internetsäkerhet, trådlös kommunikation, distribuerade algoritmer och system, programmeringsspråk, prestandaanalys, operativsystem, simuleringsteknik och verktyg, programvaruteknik, system och nätverksprogrammering, tillämpad kryptografi, optimering, informationsteori.
Applicants with strong experimental, systems engineering, or theoretical profiles and research interests in all aspects of security and privacy are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have an interest in several of the following areas: design, analysis, verification, implementation, or empirical evaluation of secure network systems. Of primary interest are security and resilience in positioning/localization, including global navigation satellite systems.
Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate readiness and willingness to contribute to our research and to work in an international research team.
After the eligibility requirements, great importance will be placed on personal qualities.

Information about admission and employment
Only those admitted to doctoral studies may be employed as a PhD student. The total period of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for four years. An employed PhD student may, to a limited extent (at most 20%), perform certain tasks within, e.g., education and administration. A new employment as a PhD student is valid for at most one year; the employment may thereafter be renewed for at most two years at a time.
