Project description

Research education subject: Computer Science

The goal of the project is to develop video-based methods to monitor a person's physiological parameters, e.g., heart rate, breathing patterns, skin temperature, pupil dilation, etc. Physiological response can be used to estimate underlying states such as concentration, anxiety, and depression, and is harder for the person to control than explicit behaviors (e.g., facial expressions and speech). Functional systems in clinical and cognitive science practice typically require special measurement equipment that can disturb the person, so our video-based solution would be both scientifically interesting and practically useful. The project will be carried out in collaboration with researchers in perceptual neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet in Solna.

Supervision: Prof. Hedvig Kjellström is proposed to supervise the PhD student; Decision is made upon admission.
