Project description

Research education subject: Energy and environmental systems

The Department of Energy Systems (dES) within the Division of Energy Technology at KTH has driven the development of energy systems and integrated resource analysis methods to support integrated resource planning in developed and developing countries, through funding from UK Aid, UN and EU. The department is now seeking a PhD student to work on a deeper transformation of the methods by using machine learning, whose contribution will extend across various projects. The student's work will focus on using ML to generate workflows that enable the exploration of uncertainties and broad scenario spaces in large and detailed integrated resource models. This is intended to contribute to modeling that is specifically adapted to the different developed and developing contexts in which the department works. Travel and engagement with authorities and stakeholders in the selected contexts and participation in capacity development activities will be part of the student's regular duties.

Supervision: Francesco Gardumi is proposed to supervise the PhD student. Decision is made upon admission.
