Project Description
Research education subject: Production Development
We are seeking a PhD student in intelligent robotics for production, focusing on robot learning and AI-based automation. The research aims to develop intelligent robot systems that combine learning-based methods and advanced algorithms to support flexible, adaptive, and human-centric industrial production. The work encompasses reinforcement learning, foundation models, world models, and advanced manipulation with application in real-world industrial environments.
The PhD student will collaborate closely with leading researchers, industrial partners, and international collaborators, contributing to both scientific work and industrial innovation. The position is part of XPRES (Center of Excellence for Production Research) and includes collaboration with leading European universities. The PhD student will also be part of the new research unit for Production Systems and Automation at KTH, an inclusive and internationally oriented environment for intelligent robotics and automation for future production solutions. Supervision: Xi Wang and Sichao Liu are proposed to supervise the PhD student. Decision is made upon admission.
Eligibility for Admission
To be admitted to doctoral studies (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance) the applicant must have basic eligibility:
a master's degree, or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits are at the advanced level, or knowledge acquired in some other way, within or outside the country, that mainly corresponds to these requirements.
In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to Engelska B/6.

To succeed in your doctoral studies at KTH, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work. During the selection of applicants, the ability to:
independently drive your work forward, collaborate with others, maintain a professional approach, and analyze and work with complex issues, will be assessed.
Following the eligibility requirements, great importance will be placed on personal qualities.

Information about Admission and Employment
Only those admitted to doctoral studies may be employed as a PhD student. The total period of employment may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral studies for four years. An employed PhD student may, to a limited extent (at most 20%), perform certain tasks within, e.g., teaching and administration. A new employment as a PhD student is valid for at most one year; the employment may thereafter be renewed for at most two years at a time. For studies intended to result in a licentiate degree, the total period of employment may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral studies for two years.
