AERONAUTICAL ELECTRICAL MACHINE MECHANICAL DESIGNER
Ingeteam, a leading company specialized in electrical engineering and the development of electrical equipment, motors, generators, and frequency converters, is looking to hire a Mechanical Design Engineer for Electrical Machines for the Aeronautical Sector at its Zamudio facilities. They will join the company's R&D area within a multidisciplinary group with the challenge of laying the foundations for the development of rotating electrical machines for aeronautical applications/aeronautical systems. Their mission will be to develop and mature the technology necessary for the mechanical design, industrialization, testing, and validation of rotating electrical machines (motors and/or generators) for aeronautical propulsion and/or in-flight power generation, ensuring compliance with applicable technical, quality, and certification requirements. The scope of development includes: (i) propulsion with direct connection to propeller (full electric or series hybrid architectures), (ii) electrical machine integrated into turbine (parallel hybrid architectures) and (iii) electrical machines for onboard power generation. Within the framework of hybrid and fully electric architectures, the position has an applied R&D approach (low–medium TRL towards high TRL), oriented towards converting aeronautical requirements into robust and verifiable design solutions. The engineer will be responsible for establishing and applying design and verification methodologies (structural calculation, tolerances, materials, joints, rotor dynamics/vibrations, thermal management, and mechanical interfaces), as well as defining the testing strategy and the associated evidence of compliance. The final objective is to have validated designs and replicable processes (design–manufacturing–testing) that allow evolution from prototypes to solutions ready for integration into aeronautical programs, minimizing technical and certification risk.
Their main functions will be: Propose and evaluate design alternatives, considering trends and the state of the art of the aeronautical sector.
Define and apply the tools, methodologies, and development processes necessary for new products (design, calculation, verification, and documentation).
Perform the mechanical design of the system (rotating electrical machine and/or its subassemblies) based on the requirements defined in the initial phases of the project.
Execute the calculation and dimensioning of the different design alternatives.
Analyze results, assess trade-offs (weight, stiffness, costs, manufacturability, maintainability) and select the optimal solution in coordination with the team.
Develop the design to its industrial maturity: 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, tolerances, material selection, and technical specifications.
Participate in the validation, incident management, and redesign of components under a continuous improvement approach.
Minimum requirements: -Degree in Higher Electrical Engineering or similar -Previous experience in similar positions -Minimum English C1 -Given the regulated nature of the sector and the orientation towards aeronautical applications, the position requires knowledge and application of automotive and aeronautical regulations and conformity frameworks, including: Automotive: quality/product development regulations and standards specific to the sector.
Aeronautics: RTCA DO 160 (environmental conditions and testing procedures applicable to the equipment) and EASA Part 21 (focus on certification and demonstration of compliance, as applicable to the program).
The following will be valued: -Knowledge of mechanical calculation (especially dynamic or structural calculation) and mechanical FEM calculation software (Ansys mechanical, Abaqus, Nastran...) -Teamwork -Quality orientation -Initiative -Flexibility
We offer:
- Joining an innovative organization leading in Power Electronics, being part of the contribution to the energy model transition, impacting triple sustainability (social, environmental, and economic)
- Flexible schedule and other work-life balance facilities
- Remuneration consistent with the candidate's experience
- Indefinite contract
- Integration into a young, dynamic, and technologically advanced team
