VTS Operator

Properly perform radio watchkeeping on the VTS working channel, as well as on VHF channel 16. Establish timely communication with vessels entering the VTS coverage area. Receive necessary data about vessels and register them in the VTS database. Transmit information (navigational, meteorological, operational) to vessels. Perform radar and AIS detection of vessels within the VTS coverage area and monitor their movement, in order to detect in advance dangerous situations of vessel convergence and excessive approach to the shore or navigational hazards, and issue recommendations and instructions to vessels to resolve such situations.

Requirements

higher or secondary vocational education in the field of marine navigation; - sea service of at least 24 months in the position of officer of the watch or chief officer or captain of a sea-going vessel of gross tonnage 500 register tons and more; - possessing knowledge of the English language to conduct negotiations with foreign vessels using IMO Standard Marine Communication Phrases.
