End-of-studies internship – BESS Services and Technological Watch for BESS bidirectional inverters
Who are we? We are an engineering group, a major player in the fields of building, water, energy, industry, and mobility. 100% owned by our employees, we are united by a single passion: practicing a profession that combines the art of designing with ingenuity and the art of realizing with commitment. Our 11,000 employees, in more than 40 countries, create solutions every day for a positive life through our strategic challenges for the planet and humanity. Our teams are human-sized, prioritizing proximity, daily exchanges, and the sharing of experience. To facilitate reading, inclusive writing is not used in the body of this announcement; terms used in the masculine refer to women, men, and non-binary people alike.
Main mission: Within the EnR department, you will be trained in the challenges associated with EnR power plants. Following the work carried out by the Energy Storage team for several years now, and with the support of an expert, you will be responsible for continuing to develop our analysis of the services provided by a battery, and notably: 1/ An analysis of different BESS services, both in France and internationally. These functions are already specified by Artelia on various projects around the world. The goal is to standardize their description. You will build a reference framework for the team, allowing for each function: To clearly understand the purpose and challenges of the function, for the grid and/or for the client. To have a tool to model the need represented by the function. To have a specification specific to the function. To be able to present the advantages and disadvantages of each service in a clean and succinct manner. 2/ To develop a BESS strategic development methodology that can be proposed to a developer, allowing for the implementation of "turnkey" BESS offers in target countries for ARTELIA. To do this, based on the first part, you will have to: Understand the local market and identify the most promising opportunities for battery energy storage systems (BESS). Define an offer that is technically, commercially, and financially viable, with services adapted to the needs of electrical grids and industrial clients. Validate that the tools from mission 1 indeed allow for the sizing and deployment of these BESS projects. Build a profitable economic model and a marketing strategy adapted to the context. 3/ Perform a PCS (BESS bidirectional inverters) technological watch: accompanied by an expert, you will monitor PCS technologies available on the market in order to identify technical evolutions, performance, grid functionalities (grid-forming, system services, black start, etc.), emerging suppliers, feedback, and cost trends, with the aim of guiding technological choices and procurement strategies for future BESS projects. Secondary mission: Support for studies: discovery of the daily life of a design engineer. You may be mobilized by project managers to participate in the realization of missions for our clients, such as feasibility studies, Due Diligences, yield studies, and EnR plant design. Your team Independent of any industrialist or investor, ARTELIA offers a full range of consulting and engineering services in the energy field. You will join the Energy Storage/Photovoltaic pole of the Renewable Energies (EnR) department. The EnR department has been working in the fields of photovoltaics, wind, and storage since the early 2000s and consists of about fifty people from diverse backgrounds, creating great diversity (M/F, nationality, age...), an enthusiastic mix of dynamism and experience. This department is organized into poles (Photovoltaic, Storage & Flexibility, Wind, and Multi-Energy) in order to develop expertise within them and put it at the service of projects while ensuring the transversality necessary for hybrid projects. The missions carried out cover: A wide spectrum of services: (strategy, feasibility studies, simplified and detailed preliminary designs, tender documents, execution study reviews, and construction supervision, consulting, audit) while acting as Project Manager (MOE) or Project Management Assistant (AMO).
A great diversity of projects: ground-mounted, floating, rooftop, solar carports, grid-connected or not, with or without storage.
A wide variety of clients: international funders, energy developers, local authorities...
A diversity of locations: France, DOM-TOM, Argentina, El Salvador, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Benin, Togo, Niger, Vietnam, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique...
Our team intervenes, for example, on the reconfiguration of the electrical distribution of an industrial site in France following a photovoltaic self-production project, or on hybrid plants in Kenya, or even on the grid connection of a large ground-mounted plant project in Central America.
Your assets You are preparing a Master's level (BAC+5) training specialized in Electrical Engineering. Behavioral skills: Autonomy, initiative, rigor, organization, curiosity. Professional skills: Basic knowledge of electrical systems (production, distribution, markets) and the renewable energy environment in France. A basic understanding of photovoltaic plants and battery energy storage will be a plus. An interest in understanding client needs and searching for technical solutions. IT skills: You are proficient in office applications (Office pack). Language skills: Professional proficiency in English is essential; mastery of other languages will be a plus.
We offer you: A springboard for your future career at Artelia A tutor close to you within a human-sized team Industry experts to accompany you on various projects of different sizes A dedicated HR team to guide you during your internship
