HIIT: Postdoc researchers for the field of computer science
Helsinki Institute of Computer Science (HIIT) is looking for postdoc researchers to join the computer science research community in the Helsinki area. The purpose of the position is to support early-career researchers on their journey toward an independent research career in collaboration with one or more HIIT faculty supervisors. The position offers researchers excellent opportunities for high-quality and impactful research as well as for creating research networks intended to support their careers.

Position details
• The positions are intended for researchers who have recently completed a doctoral degree or who will complete a doctoral degree before starting the position.
• The positions are under the auspices of Aalto University and University of Helsinki – the parent universities of HIIT.
• The positions are fully funded, including salary and travel/publication costs. Salaries follow the host universities' salary scales.
• The positions are for a maximum of three years, and their start dates are flexible and negotiated individually.
• The selected applicant will join the research group of a HIIT faculty member, who will act as a supervisor and will be selected based on common interests.

Helsinki Institute of Computer Science is a strategic partnership between Aalto University and University of Helsinki – these are two internationally leading universities in the field of computer science and information technology. Requirements
Key requirements for the position:
• You have (or expect to obtain soon) a doctoral degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related field.
• You have previous experience in computer science, preferably demonstrated by publication activity in top-level forums in the field.
• The position requires the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and oral English language skills are essential.

Evaluation schedule
We ask all applicants proceeding in the recruitment process to give a public presentation. We will contact the selected applicants at the end of October to arrange this public presentation. Public presentations will be held via the Zoom service in early November. Selected applicants will be notified of this by the end of November.

In order for us to find the best possible compatibility between applicants and supervisors, all applicants must describe their research interests. All applicants must attach all the following attachments to their application.
Required attachments:
1) A cover letter (1–2 pages) stating the intended research area and how you intend to contribute to the development of the field. If you have a potential supervisor or supervisors, you should clearly state your motivation for applying for the supervision of that specific supervisor, how you could contribute to the supervisor's research and the development of the research area, as well as other relevant information.
2) A preliminary research plan (3–5 pages) containing background information, research objectives and methods, possible hypothetical results, potential collaboration, and other key information.
3) A curriculum vitae, including a list of publications (do not attach full copies of publications)
4) Doctoral transcript and doctoral degree certificate. If you have not yet completed your doctoral degree, we expect you to complete the degree before the start of employment. Instead of a degree certificate, you should attach a plan to the application clearly stating the intended graduation date. Contact information for 2–3 senior academic persons as referees. We will contact your referees if letters of recommendation are needed.
