Education:

College/CEGEP. or equivalent experience.

Work setting:

Denturist's practice.

Tasks:

• Design dental devices.
• Modify dental devices including full or partial dentures, orthodontic appliances, inlays, onlays, clasps and bands.
• Prepare plaster models and moulds.
• Supervise technical staff.
• Train other dental technicians.
• Perform administrative functions for the dental laboratory.
• Mould wax over dentures set-up.
• Finish metal framework of dentures.
• Prepare wax bite-blocks and impression trays.
• Pack plastic material in moulds to form full or partial dentures.
• Polish and buff dentures.
• Employ creative problem solving to identify opportunities for process improvement in bed assignment, transfer, patient flow and resource utilization.

Supervision:

1 to 2 people.

Technical expertise (dental):

• Plastering.
• Packing.
• Waxing-up.
• Casting.
• Polishing.
• Assembly.
