Senior PHP Developer (Symfony)

As a PHP Developer , you will build and enhance the backend services powering our payment platform. Working with modern technologies such as PHP, Symfony, PostgreSQL and AWS, you will develop scalable, secure and high-performance solutions used by businesses across Europe.
The team: You’ll be joining our in-house Pay team, currently made up of 9 professionals across Software Development, QA, and DevOps. The team has built a strong collaborative culture and works closely together, openly sharing knowledge and best coding & AI practices. ALZURA’s Lithuanian office: The ALZURA AG Lithuania team is already taking shape. It currently includes Java and Node.js developers as well as a manager, so the PHP developer role would join an established team that is already collaborating effectively while continuing to grow rapidly.
The Recruitment Process: We value our candidates’ time, so our recruitment process is designed to be efficient and transparent:
- Introductory call with HR and the Technical Leader (30-minute remote meeting).
- Take-home assignment. Please note that this is not a coding task, and no programming will be required.
- Review of the assignment followed by a technical interview with the CTO.
In total, the process consists of just two remote meetings and one non-coding take-home assignment in between.
Your responsibilities:
Professional software development using PHP 7/8, Symfony, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, AWS (S3, SQS, API Gateway), REST APIs, and event-driven architectures. AI supported development process with Claude. Active shaping of the software architecture and contributions to design decisions. Developing, testing, and documenting the planned functionality. Working in a small, self-reliant Scrum team. Documentation of planning and implementation processes in the project management software Jira and Confluence.
Requirements:
Several years of professional experience as a PHP Backend Developer. Prior experience with the Symfony (preferred) or Laravel frameworks, with a solid understanding of their core concepts and best practices. Strong knowledge of REST API design and development. In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL, including SQL optimization, indexing and query performance tuning. Good understanding of Redis and caching strategies. Proven experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures and message queues (AWS SQS or RabbitMQ). Hands-on experience with AWS services, particularly S3, SQS and API Gateway. Proficiency in Docker and Docker Compose. Proficient English.
