Major duties

  • Responsible for providing instructions, distributing and balancing the workload employees (base level GS-07) who perform such work as processing a wide variety of retired pay transactions.
  • Keep in touch with the status and progress of work, and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities.
  • Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization.
  • Give on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Maintain a current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives.
  • Resolve simple informal complaints of employees and refers others to supervisor. Make information suggestions to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignments, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.

Qualifications

GS-08 QUALIFICATIONS: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-07) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized experience is defined as: Reviewing work for technical adequacy and compliance with established policies and procedures; processing a wide variety of complex military payroll transactions such as determining entitlements, examining and verifying documents for propriety, completeness and accuracy. You may qualify for consideration if meeting specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement. The Security Designation will vary and dependent upon position and may require a secret clearance or higher. Employment in this position requires a background investigation which may delay starting date. If you are selected and cannot obtain a favorable security determination within a reasonable period of time due to disclosed/undisclosed background issues, the employment offer may be withdrawn. Individuals selected are required to obtain/maintain a favorable security determination to occupy a sensitive position within the agency as a condition of employment. Education

GS-8 Substitution of Education for Experience: Eighteen months of graduate level education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements when the education is directly related to the position being filled. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience and/or a basic requirement, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
