Typical duties include: Conducts assigned privacy compliance review activities for CBP programs and systems using established methods and checklists, identifies potential privacy risks, and drafts corrective recommendations under guidance from senior staff. Assists in preparing, reviewing, and maintaining privacy documentation (PIAs, SORNs, PTAs, data sharing agreements, routine use documentation, Privacy Act amendment materials), ensuring accuracy and completeness and keeping repositories organized and up to date. Supports analysis of data collection and information sharing practices, reviews how PII is collected, used, shared, and protected, and drafts recommendations to enhance privacy safeguards for review by senior staff. Provides program support and stakeholder coordination on routine privacy matters, including tracking action items, preparing briefing and training materials, organizing logistics, and assisting with privacy training and incident response activities.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-9 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Assisting in the review of program or system information to identify basic privacy implications and applying established handling and safeguard procedures for personal information. Supporting privacy compliance monitoring activities (such as reviews, assessments, or audits) by gathering information, preparing summaries, and helping track corrective or preventive actions for identified privacy issues. Assisting with reviews of processes or controls involving the collection, use, storage, or sharing of personal information by compiling documentation and noting potential areas for improved privacy protections. Providing support in drafting or assembling privacy guidance, briefings, or training materials and helping convey basic privacy requirements to program staff or system owners under close supervision. Experience: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Reviewing program or system information using established methods to identify potential privacy implications and assisting in recommending appropriate handling and safeguards for personal information. Participating in privacy compliance monitoring activities (such as reviews, assessments, or audits) and helping document, develop, or track corrective or preventive actions for identified privacy issues. Coordinating process or control reviews involving the collection, use, storage, or sharing of personal information and recommending improvements to privacy protections in consultation with senior staff. Drafting or contributing to privacy guidance, briefings, or training materials and helping communicate privacy requirements to program staff or system owners under established policies and procedures. Education Substitution: GS-9 Education Substitution: Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in an accredited college or university, or a J.D. or LL.B. degree may be substituted for experience at the GS-9 grade level. Such education must demonstrate the skills needed to do the work. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 36 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 2 years of full-time study requirement. GS-11 Education Substitution: You may substitute a Ph.D. or an equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M. for experience at the GS-11 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise three years of graduate study. If that information is not available, use 54 semester or 81 quarter hours. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at the GS-9 & GS-11 grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 09/14/2026.
