Job description

About the team

Castrol’s Technical Services team helps customers, distributors and colleagues connect lubricant technology with the equipment it needs to protect. Covering North, East and West Africa, you’ll put your engineering knowledge to work across different industries and markets, solving customer problems while developing the distributor technical teams who deliver support locally.

Key tasks

Understanding the equipment is the starting point. Your challenge is to turn that understanding into practical solutions, then help others put them into action, whether you’re coaching remotely or working alongside them at a customer site.

Shape and deliver the regional technical services plan, identifying opportunities through customer visits and distributor discussions rather than waiting for a fixed list of tasks.

Coach distributors’ frontline technical staff remotely and on site, helping them troubleshoot problems, apply lubrication best practices and build the confidence to support customers themselves.

Provide technical advice to distributors, customers and internal colleagues across heavy-duty, industrial and automotive applications. Resolve escalated issues, manage technical complaints and handle helpdesk enquiries.

Conduct site inspections, lubrication audits and equipment surveys, using reliability and condition-monitoring methods to identify problems and recommend improvements.

Manage field trials and pilot new technical services, turning findings into practical recommendations, value-improvement projects and case studies that demonstrate customer benefits.

Work with sales colleagues and distributors to support prospects and existing accounts. Develop customer value propositions that explain why a technical recommendation makes operational and commercial sense.

Build technical capability across sales, technical and marketing teams through training and knowledge sharing, communicating issues clearly and coordinating with colleagues to resolve them.

Prioritise competing customer needs and technical projects while working in line with Castrol Global Business Principles, the Code of Conduct, and HSE standards and policies.

Success means more than answering a technical question: it means distributor teams that can deliver effective support, customers who understand the value of your recommendations, and improvements that help strengthen the business.

Experience required

You may already work in lubricants, or you may bring your experience from industrial maintenance, reliability or condition monitoring. What matters most is understanding how equipment works, diagnosing problems and helping others deliver solutions.

An engineering degree, preferably in Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering. Chemical and Materials Engineering backgrounds are also welcome.

Relevant technical experience in equipment maintenance, lubrication, reliability or condition monitoring. The guideline is 3–5 years, with flexibility for candidates bringing greater experience; technical depth and the ability to work independently matter more than a fixed upper limit.

Strong equipment and application knowledge, particularly in industrial or heavy-duty environments, supported by analytical thinking and practical troubleshooting skills. Lubricants technical-service experience is an advantage, not a prerequisite.

The ability to coach, transfer knowledge and influence people you do not directly manage, building productive relationships with distributor teams and customers across different markets.

Initiative and accountability: you can identify opportunities, set priorities and follow through without needing a prescribed daily task list, adapting when customer needs change.

Commercial judgement and a customer-focused approach, with the communication and negotiation skills to explain technical recommendations, handle differing priorities and connect solutions to operational and financial value.

Professional English for written and spoken communication. French suitable for customer meetings, calls and emails is a strong advantage, but is not mandatory.

This position is based in Cairo. The role combines office-based work with visits to customer and distributor sites, with international travel across North, East and West Africa for a minimum of 50% of your working time. Privacy
