Education:
Other trades certificate or diploma.
Tasks:
- Determine materials required.
- Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine material requirements.
- Weld or bolt sections together.
- Set up and operate heavy-duty metal-working machines.
- Rig, hoist and move materials to storage areas or within worksite.
- Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings specifications, manuals and processes.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic, fully automated welding equipment.
- Operate brakes, shears and other metal shaping, straightening and bending machines.
- Determine weldability of materials.
- Verify accuracy and completeness of data.
- Operate oxygen arc cutting equipment (arc-air), (AOC).
- Operate previously set-up welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts and products.
- Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables.
- Operate hoisting and lifting equipment.
- Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
