Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped millions of people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles. Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office. This is a remote US role with a preference for east coast time zone. Openness to flexible hours to support cross-time-zone collaboration with teams in Europe and the U.S. About the role We are seeking a highly motivated, technical Engineering Manager to lead our Sensing Discovery Squad – the team that turns brand-new sensing signals into validated, productizable capabilities at the very front edge of Oura’s roadmap. You’ll lead the work that takes raw signals from emerging sensing technologies on next-generation Oura hardware and turns them into algorithms, prototypes, and shippable member experiences. Partnering tightly with Science and Hardware, you’ll go from raw signal → validated capability → product, de-risking the sensor foundations that future Oura products are built on. This is a rare blend of innovation and impact: your team both explores new sensing capabilities and ships them. You’ll thrive here if you love the ambiguity of early discovery but are equally motivated by getting validated capabilities into members’ hands. Success requires strong people leadership plus the technical depth to guide hard trade-offs across science, hardware, and software and help the team move fast. Join us to define the future of health and wellness products! What you will do Explore and ship new sensing capabilities by leading a (mobile) engineering team that moves ideas from prototype to validated capability to, where it counts, production-quality features for members. Partner closely with Product, Science, and Hardware teams to validate new signals, integrate them into prototypes and prove out the algorithms and APIs that downstream products will rely on. Drive cross-functional development efforts that span software, algorithms, sensors, firmware, and hardware integration. Contribute to planning and scoping for critical discovery initiatives, and own execution against key milestones and outcomes. Provide technical leadership to the team by guiding architectural discussions, evaluating trade-offs, and supporting sound engineering decisions across exploratory work. Mentor and develop engineers, creating an environment where people can do ambitious work, grow their skills, and build strong cross-functional partnerships. Champion engineering excellence by establishing effective ways of working for discovery and prototyping, including quality, learning velocity, and clear decision-making. Collaborate effectively with global partners across functions and time zones to ensure discovery work connects to broader product and technology strategy. Minimum Requirements 6+ years of experience in software engineering, with 2+ years leading and managing software engineers or multidisciplinary engineering teams. Proven experience leading cross-functional technical work from early concept through prototype, validation, and productization. Solid understanding of machine learning concepts and the practical considerations of building products or prototypes that rely on algorithms. Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, feedback, delegation, and growing high-performing teams. Experience with agentic coding and AI development workflows. Strong communication and project leadership skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders and move complex work forward in ambiguous problem spaces. Ability to maintain a sustainable team environment that supports high performance, healthy collaboration, and long-term well-being. Preferred Experience Bonus points if you have: 8+ years experience in software engineering, of which 4+ years were as a manager of software engineers. Prior professional mobile development experience in either Android or iOS. Experience delivering software products related to fitness, health or wellness. Hands-on experience building products or prototypes on top of raw sensor data – signal validation, sensor/firmware integration, or working closely with algorithm/science teams to turn signals into features. Experience with FDA-regulated products or other regulated health industries. Deeper experience with (machine learning) algorithms. Collaborative development experience working asynchronously with teams in different countries, time zones, and cultures. Benefits At Oura, we care about you and your well-being.
