Accountabilities:
The Mechanical Engineering Consultant will be responsible for managing engineering projects from initiation through completion, ensuring technical excellence, operational efficiency, and strong client relationships. This role requires effective leadership of multidisciplinary teams, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to balance technical, financial, and scheduling priorities.
Lead and coordinate project teams consisting of engineers, designers, controls specialists, and scheduling professionals involved in nuclear power plant modifications and analyses.
Manage all aspects of project execution, including safety, schedule, budget, reporting, quality, and client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
Direct project resources, establish accountability, and provide mentorship and coaching to team members.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, task engineers, stakeholders, and internal teams.
Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and according to established requirements.
Monitor and report key performance indicators related to project progress, costs, schedules, and overall performance.
Identify, assess, and manage construction and execution risks.
Track project changes, evaluate impacts, and implement appropriate controls.
Communicate project updates, challenges, and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.
Prepare technical reports and studies that clearly present engineering information while meeting client standards and documentation requirements.
Analyze project issues and develop solutions that improve performance and outcomes.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will bring extensive engineering experience combined with proven project management capabilities in complex technical environments. Strong communication, organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines are essential for success.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Academic background including coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
10+ years of experience in a technical field such as engineering, construction, project planning, or related disciplines.
Proven experience managing multidisciplinary engineering or technical teams.
5+ years of experience serving as a client liaison or technical lead in a support or leadership capacity.
Strong understanding of project scheduling, resource coordination, and budget management.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Experience with engineering design, construction management, or technical consulting is a plus.
PMP certification, MBA, management/business education, or proposal writing experience are considered valuable additions.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
