Accountabilities: The Live Underwriter will be responsible for reviewing and approving mortgage loan applications while ensuring compliance, accuracy, and effective risk management throughout the underwriting process. Review and analyze mortgage loan applications to verify eligibility, completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. Evaluate borrower credit, income, assets, collateral, and overall loan risk using established underwriting guidelines. Apply knowledge of the 4Cs of underwriting: credit, capacity, capital, and collateral, to make informed lending decisions. Review loan documentation, reports, inspections, and supporting data to confirm property eligibility and collateral acceptability. Make independent underwriting decisions based on investor, regulatory, and company guidelines. Provide final approval or conditional approval for mortgage loans while ensuring all required documentation is completed accurately and on time. Manage loan files using mortgage technology platforms and ensure conditions are reviewed and cleared within required timelines. Collaborate with processors, advisors, and internal teams to communicate underwriting decisions and resolve escalated loan scenarios. Maintain high standards of customer service, communication, and operational efficiency across departments. Contribute recommendations to improve underwriting processes, policies, and quality standards. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced mortgage underwriting professional with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make accurate risk-based decisions in a high-volume environment. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification preferred. 3 to 8 years of relevant experience in mortgage underwriting or related lending operations. Strong experience with live underwriting processes and mortgage loan evaluation. Solid understanding of the 4Cs of underwriting, including credit, income, capacity, and collateral assessment. Experience reviewing mortgage loans, borrower documentation, loan data, reports, and property inspections. Strong knowledge of conventional mortgage underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements. Ability to independently assess risk and make sound lending decisions. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail. Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
