Accountabilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for leading the redesign and migration of legacy backend systems into modern cloud-native services.
Analyze existing Erlang-based services, APIs, and data flows to understand business logic and constraints
Design and develop scalable backend APIs using Node.js and TypeScript for frontend and system integration needs
Lead migration of legacy services into maintainable, well-tested microservices architecture
Redesign data models and migrate data from Riak to AWS databases such as RDS and DocumentDB
Implement and manage event-driven communication using Kafka, SQS, or RabbitMQ
Ensure system performance, scalability, security, and reliability in a cloud-native AWS environment
Improve observability through logging, monitoring, tracing, and operational readiness practices
Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, documentation, and agile ceremonies
Requirements:
The ideal candidate brings strong backend engineering expertise and experience working in complex, evolving system landscapes.
5–10 years of backend development experience with strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript
Solid experience designing APIs (REST, BFF, contract-first approaches) for frontend consumption
Hands-on experience with legacy system migration or large-scale refactoring projects
Strong understanding of data modeling and database migration (NoSQL to RDS/DocumentDB preferred)
Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies
Good knowledge of AWS services and cloud-native architectures
Strong understanding of backend security (OAuth, JWT, IAM, API security best practices)
Experience with testing practices including unit, integration, and migration testing
Strong communication skills in English; ability to work in collaborative, agile teams
