Expert/Principal Software Engineer

Accountabilities: As an Expert/Principal Software Engineer, you will take ownership of complex software development initiatives, contributing across architecture, implementation, testing, debugging, and customer-facing problem resolution. You will work on critical infrastructure software while helping improve engineering practices and supporting the growth of technical teams.

Design, develop, and maintain system software solutions for advanced networking infrastructure.

Create functional and technical specifications, design documents, test plans, and high-quality implementations.

Develop software components using C, C++, and Python within large-scale Linux-based environments.

Build and maintain APIs, drivers, and software interfaces for managing hardware devices and system resources.

Implement automated testing solutions, analyze test results, and resolve software defects.

Debug complex issues across software, hardware interactions, and customer environments.

Collaborate with engineering teams to develop solutions for networking infrastructure, including AI-driven networking environments.

Partner with support and testing teams to investigate issues and deliver reliable fixes and updates.

Work with open-source technologies, libraries, and tools to enhance software capabilities.

Review technical designs and code contributions from other engineers.

Mentor junior engineers and contribute to improving development processes and technical standards.

Drive project planning, task estimation, progress tracking, and delivery execution.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in software engineering, systems development, and large-scale infrastructure solutions. You should have strong technical depth, the ability to independently solve complex problems, and experience working across software and hardware environments.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience with 12+ years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with 10+ years; or a Ph.D. with 7+ years.

Strong programming experience with C, C++, and Python.

Extensive experience developing software for Linux-based systems.

Hands-on experience working with open-source software and contributing to or modifying existing solutions.

Experience developing Linux drivers, APIs, or software interfaces for hardware and system resources.

Knowledge of hardware programming, ASICs, or custom hardware environments.

Experience debugging complex software systems and troubleshooting production issues.

Understanding of distributed systems concepts, including messaging, signaling, databases, and command-line interfaces.

Strong understanding of software engineering principles, architecture, and development best practices.

Ability to independently design and implement solutions while collaborating effectively within engineering teams.

Strong communication skills and ability to mentor other engineers.

Experience with networking concepts, including Layer 2/Layer 3 technologies and switching architectures, is a plus.
