Accountabilities:
The Director, Innovation Portfolio & PMO will be responsible for building and strengthening portfolio management capabilities while ensuring strategic initiatives are prioritized, governed, and successfully delivered. This role requires strong leadership, collaboration, and execution skills to improve organizational visibility, resource alignment, and project outcomes.
Lead and continuously enhance the Innovation Portfolio and Project Management Office function, establishing governance frameworks, methodologies, standards, and reporting practices.
Oversee enterprise portfolios across technology, healthcare operations, research, innovation, and strategic improvement initiatives outside of implementation activities.
Develop portfolio review processes that support prioritization, escalation, accountability, and executive decision-making.
Monitor portfolio health, including timelines, budgets, risks, dependencies, resource capacity, and business outcomes.
Identify delivery risks and provide recommendations on resource allocation, project sequencing, and strategic tradeoffs.
Lead, coach, and develop project managers and research professionals while promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Assign project resources based on organizational priorities, complexity, and team capabilities.
Partner with cross-functional teams to coordinate execution, resolve challenges, and ensure initiatives remain aligned with strategic goals.
Support organizational readiness, implementation planning, and change management efforts for major initiatives.
Create executive dashboards, scorecards, and reporting frameworks to provide visibility into performance, risks, capacity, and progress.
Facilitate stakeholder communication across leadership teams, governance groups, project sponsors, and external partners.
Promote transparency throughout the project lifecycle by communicating milestones, risks, decisions, and outcomes effectively.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate is an experienced portfolio and project management leader with a strong background in complex environments involving technology, healthcare, innovation, or organizational transformation. They should combine strategic thinking with operational excellence and demonstrate the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
8+ years of progressive experience leading complex portfolios, programs, projects, or PMO functions.
5+ years of experience managing project managers, program managers, or cross-functional teams.
PMP, PgMP, CAPM, or comparable project or portfolio management certification preferred.
Proven experience overseeing large-scale initiatives involving technology, healthcare operations, research, innovation, or business transformation.
Strong understanding of portfolio governance, project management methodologies, resource planning, and delivery frameworks.
Experience facilitating executive-level discussions, prioritization decisions, and strategic planning activities.
Excellent communication, leadership, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and change management abilities.
Ability to manage ambiguity, competing priorities, complex dependencies, and multiple stakeholder expectations.
Experience within healthcare technology ecosystems or familiarity with Epic environments is preferred.
Ability to build strong relationships, mentor teams, and use data-driven insights to improve execution.
