Position Overview

The psychiatrist is responsible for providing psychiatric assessment and treatment for patients (defined by licensing and regulatory standards), at clinical sites at which the psychiatrist is assigned. The psychiatrist is expected to function as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, treating patients with eating disorders and related or comorbid psychiatric conditions. The psychiatrist will serve patients in a gender-inclusive environment of all ages and across multiple levels of care. Further, the psychiatrist shall serve as a resource to the medical and behavioral treatment teams around best-practice psychiatric care.

How Psychiatrist – Physicians Empower Recovery

Provide direct psychiatric services through the comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients, including appropriate exam, work-up and the prescription of medications and other interventions as indicated.

Evaluate, diagnose, and treat psychiatric complications of eating disorders, as well as intercurrent conditions, for patients at the different levels of care offered at the facility. Frequency of visits should be dictated by clinical need, and facilitate appropriate psychiatric care for the clinical severity and in accordance with direction from site/regional psychiatry leadership

Develop the psychiatric treatment plans of all assigned patients and update with each visit

Provide treatment guidance as needed to ancillary psychiatric providers, which will vary per region.

Liaise by telephone with each patient’s ambulatory provider as needed during treatment in the context of significant concerns.

Liaise with families of patients as indicated

Ensure there is psychiatric follow up in the community of all inpatient and residential patients on caseload within a reasonable time after discharge, to assess stability for next level of care, and to complete follow-up recommendations

Work with the Utilization Review team to provide psychiatric information to support the facilitation of peer-to-peer insurance reviews, determination of appropriate levels of care, arbitration of clinical appeals, etc.

Participate in staff conferences and education, and serve on clinical committees as assigned

Participate in program development with site/regional psychiatric leadership as interested and assigned

Maintain license and uphold all board certification requirements

Perform all assigned supervision requirements as needed if on-site collaborating physician

Complete all documentation in a timely manner

Participate in call schedule

Perform other duties as assigned or identified

Qualifications

Education Qualifications:

MD or DO

BC/BE in Psychiatry

Professional Qualifications:

Possession of a current medical license in the state where the physician will practice, and open to multi-state licensure if need arises

Current unrestricted DEA license

Completion of an accredited residency program in Psychiatry

Experience with eating disorder patients, preferred

Child and Adolescent certified, preferred
