Analyzing problems to see how mechanical and thermal devices might help solve a particular issue
Designing or redesigning mechanical and thermal devices or subsystems, using analysis and computer-aided design
Investigating equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedies
Developing and testing prototypes of devices they design
Overseeing the manufacturing process for the device
Analyzing the test results and changing the design or system as needed
Using computer-aided design or modeling software for simulation purposes
Evaluating mechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs, applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials
Completing project technical and financial feasibility studies
Maintaining and modifying equipment to ensure safety, reliability and optimal performance
Documenting specifications, system narratives, and operational instructions
Ensuring compliance with the project’s technical standards, relevant health and safety regulations, and quality standards

Responsibilities
Design and implement cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety and reliability.
Develop project specifications with colleagues, often including those from other engineering disciplines.
Discuss and solve complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers.
Ensure a product can be made reliably and will perform consistently in specified operating environments.
Manage PSD projects using engineering principles and techniques.
Test, evaluate, modify and re-test products.
Consider the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints.
Write reports and documentation and provide technical advice to management.
Ensure all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed.
Qualifications
Proven work experience as a mechanical engineer.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Excellent mechanical and technical skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in CAD and AutoCAD software.
Advanced MS Office skills.
Familiarity with 2D or 3D engineering design and PSD installation tools.
BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
