Traveling Superintendent - Commercial Roofing

ROLE OVERVIEW
The Commercial Roofing Superintendent is a hands-on field leader responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and high-quality installation of commercial roofing systems, with primary emphasis on EPDM, TPO, and PVC single-ply membranes. This role ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, to manufacturer specifications, and in full compliance with safety standards (OSHA and company protocols). The Superintendent directly supervises foremen, crews, and subcontractors while maintaining strong coordination with Project Managers, clients, general contractors, and building owners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Oversight & Execution
Manage day-to-day field operations for new construction, re-roofing (recover and tear-off), and repair projects primarily in Minnesota, with extended assignments in Center, ND for large projects
Review scopes of work, blueprints, specifications, and job packets; conduct pre-construction meetings with foremen and crews
Mobilize in late summer or early fall (per current project timing) and continue work until weather no longer allows
Return in spring to complete remaining scope, with metal work continuing through the winter on a reduced crew where feasible
Crew & Subcontractor Management
Lead, mentor, and supervise roofing foremen, in-house crews, and subcontractors
Set daily/weekly production goals, monitor labor performance, schedule manpower and equipment, and resolve field issues promptly
Ensure high productivity while controlling costs
Safety Leadership
Enforce OSHA standards and company safety policies (including AWAIR) across all jobsites
Conduct daily safety audits, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning
Maintain a zero-incident mindset and address hazards immediately
Maintain required certifications (e.g., OSHA 30)
Quality Control & Technical Expertise
Oversee proper installation of EPDM (fully adhered, ballasted, mechanically fastened), TPO, and PVC systems, including seams, flashings, terminations, and tapered insulation
Perform daily jobsite inspections and destructive testing (e.g., seam cuts) and ensure compliance with manufacturer requirements
Coordinate final manufacturer inspections and punch lists
Scheduling & Resource Management
Monitor project schedules, material deliveries, and inventory; anticipate needs, minimize waste, and coordinate equipment
Collaborate with Project Managers on change orders and schedule adjustments
Manage logistics and personal arrangements for extended out-of-state stays in North Dakota
Documentation & Communication
Maintain accurate daily reports, job logs, photos, time tracking, and close-out documentation
Provide regular updates to Project Managers and leadership
Represent the company professionally with clients, GCs, and owners
Additional Duties
Participate in post-job reviews, identify training needs, and support business development through quality workmanship
Assist with estimating and take-offs as required
Remain available and flexible for multi-month North Dakota assignments when large projects are secured
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
5+ years in commercial roofing, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory Superintendent or Foreman role
Strong hands-on expertise with EPDM, TPO, and PVC systems (fully adhered, ballasted, mechanically fastened)
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and shop drawings; proficient in field measurements, take-offs, and quality verification
Proven ability to lead teams, communicate effectively, solve problems under pressure, and foster a safety-first, high-performance culture
OSHA 10/30 (or ability to obtain quickly); valid driver's license with a clean record; ability to pass background check and drug screening
Capable of elevated work, lifting 50+ lbs, bending, kneeling, and working in various weather conditions, including MN/ND winters
High flexibility and willingness to travel and stay extended periods in North Dakota for major projects
Preferred
Familiarity with modified bitumen, BUR, metal, or coatings
Strong organizational skills and comfort with straightforward project management tools and processes (Centerpoint and internal systems)

US Pay Range $115,000 — $125,000 USD
