About the company

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, development, prototyping, and testing of advanced mechanical systems for next-generation semiconductor automation equipment and autonomous robotic platforms, including Hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (HAUVs).

Your tasks

The successful candidate will drive mechanical engineering projects from concept development through detailed design, simulation, fabrication, assembly, and final product delivery. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will develop precision mechanical systems, high-speed automation mechanisms, underwater robotic structures, and integrated electromechanical solutions that meet demanding performance, reliability, and quality requirements.

1. Mechanical Design & Product Development

  • Lead the mechanical design and development of semiconductor automation equipment, precision modules, autonomous underwater vehicles, and robotic systems.
  • Translate customer requirements and engineering concepts into functional mechanical designs, prototypes, and production-ready solutions.
  • Design mechanical components, motion mechanisms, structural assemblies, and electronics housings using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent.
  • Develop detailed 2D fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, general arrangement drawings, and engineering layouts.
  • Design and develop ultra-precision, high-speed pick-and-place mechanisms, as well as pneumatic and hydraulic systems where applicable.

2. Engineering Analysis & Simulation

  • Perform structural, kinematic, and dynamic analyses to evaluate mechanical performance and design robustness.
  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess stress distribution, deformation, fatigue, and structural integrity.
  • Apply Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and thermal analysis techniques where required to optimize system performance.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure dimensional accuracy, assembly feasibility, and functional reliability.
  • Evaluate corrosion protection, sealing, pressure resistance, and material selection for underwater and marine applications.

3. Prototyping, Fabrication & Testing

  • Oversee prototype development and fabrication using manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, 3D printing, laser cutting, welding, and composite fabrication.
  • Coordinate mechanical assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and functional testing in workshop and laboratory environments.
  • Conduct system validation and performance testing under actual operating conditions.
  • Participate in offshore sea trials to test and evaluate HAUVs and other autonomous robotic systems.
  • Develop and implement mechanical test procedures, inspection methods, and quality control standards to ensure product reliability and compliance.

4. System Integration & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with software, electronics, electrical, controls, and machine vision engineers to integrate mechanical designs into complete automation and robotic systems.
  • Work closely with project managers, customers, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to establish technical requirements and deliver engineering solutions.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and concurrent engineering principles to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and product quality.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and system-level issues and implement effective corrective actions.

5. Engineering Optimization & Project Execution

  • Drive design standardization, value engineering, cost optimization, and continuous product improvement.
  • Manage mechanical engineering deliverables, technical documentation, design reviews, and project schedules.
  • Support research and development initiatives involving new technologies, innovative mechanisms, and advanced engineering materials.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable engineering standards, safety requirements, and regulatory compliance criteria.

Requirements

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant qualifications and experience.
  • Typically 5–8 years of experience in mechanical product design and development, preferably from concept through prototyping, validation, and customer delivery.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent 3D CAD software.
  • Hands-on experience with FEA and preferably CFD simulation tools such as ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, OpenFOAM, or equivalent.
  • Practical knowledge of mechanical fabrication and manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, 3D printing, laser cutting, welding, and composite manufacturing.
  • Experience in mechanical assembly, prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Good understanding of precision mechanisms, tolerance analysis, material selection, and engineering drawing practices.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and translate technical requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.
  • Willingness to travel and participate in offshore sea trials and field testing when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in semiconductor equipment, industrial automation, precision motion systems, or robotics.
  • Experience designing autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), HAUVs, underwater housings, pressure-resistant structures, or marine robotic systems.
  • Knowledge of corrosion prevention, marine-grade materials, sealing technologies, and thermal management.
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic circuit design.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance, mechanical quality assurance, and engineering validation procedures.
  • Experience managing mechanical design projects and supporting products through the full product development lifecycle.
