Job Description:
Our Reston, VA office is looking for a Senior Network & Infrastructure Architect to serve as a senior technical authority for enterprise network architecture, disparate secure enclave design, multi-vendor hybrid cloud connectivity, and large-scale infrastructure projects.
This is a senior individual contributor role to provide technical leadership across architecture decisions, design reviews, implementation planning, modernization efforts, escalations, and North America operations support.
The ideal candidate is a network-first infrastructure architect with deep enterprise & cloud networking experience, broad infrastructure awareness, and the judgment to translate cybersecurity and program requirements into secure, supportable, and maintainable technical solutions.
This role partners closely with cybersecurity, systems, network, and program engineering teams to ensure infrastructure designs are scalable, resilient, operationally realistic, and aligned with security requirements.
Occasional after-hours/weekend maintenance and emergency response required.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Network Architecture
Lead architecture and design for enterprise LAN, WAN, wireless, data center, and cloud-connected network environments
Define future-state network architecture, modernization roadmaps, and technology standards for enterprise and secure environments
Define network patterns for high availability, segmentation, Zero Trust-aligned access, resiliency, recoverability, and secure operations
Review technical designs to ensure they are supportable, scalable, and aligned with cybersecurity and program requirements
Secure Enclave & Classified Infrastructure
Lead network and infrastructure architecture for classified, secure, encrypted, compliance-bounded, or air-gapped environments
Design secure enclave connectivity patterns, including encrypted links, redundant switching, server connectivity, and storage/network integration
Provide architecture guidance for secure environment buildouts, refreshes, and major changes
Partner with cybersecurity teams to ensure technical designs satisfy security requirements and authorization expectations
Hybrid Cloud & Infrastructure Integration
Architect hybrid connectivity between on-premises environments, secure infrastructure, and major cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure
Guide cloud networking, DNS, routing, traffic management, logging, telemetry, and infrastructure automation patterns
Provide architecture-level input for infrastructure platforms such as HCI, virtualization, Linux infrastructure, backup, storage, and container environments
Support data resiliency, disaster recovery and business continuity design for mission-critical infrastructure
Technical Leadership, Standards & Escalation
Serve as a principal technical authority for complex network, infrastructure, availability, routing, DNS, VPN, and service-impacting issues
Develop network and infrastructure standards, reference designs, implementation plans, diagrams, escalation runbooks, and architecture artifacts
Provide technical backstopping and mentoring for engineers implementing and operating enterprise and secure infrastructure
Coordinate with vendors, carriers, cybersecurity, systems, network, and program teams on major infrastructure initiatives and escalations
Onsite Responsibilities
Senior enterprise network architecture experience across on-premises, data center, colocation, cloud-connected, or secure environments.
Experience supporting secure or isolated environments, including classified, compliance-bounded, encrypted, or air-gapped infrastructure
Ability at hire to satisfy DoD 8140 / DCWF 651 Enterprise IT Architect requirements
Willing and able to work in classified, secure, or compliance-bounded environments
Able to support occasional after-hours and weekend maintenance or emergency response efforts
Able to work on-site in Reston, VA
Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of experience architecting, implementing, or operating enterprise network and infrastructure environments
5+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise networking, including switching, routing, wireless, VPN, DNS, and network security operations
Experience with Cisco enterprise networking platforms including Nexus, Catalyst, Firepower, FMC/FTD/ISE, VxLAN, etc.
Experience designing or supporting secure, classified, regulated, government, defense, or security-controlled infrastructure
Experience with at least one major cloud platform, such as AWS or Azure
Experience with hybrid connectivity, cloud networking, Azure and Route 53 DNS, routing, segmentation, or traffic-management concepts
Experience supporting directory or identity services such as Active Directory, Entra ID, ADFS, SSO, claims, or attribute mapping
Ability at hire to satisfy DoD 8140 / DCWF 651 Enterprise IT Architect requirements, as required by contract or program
Ability to create technical documentation, implementation plans, architecture artifacts, escalation runbooks, and design standards
Ability to coordinate with vendors, carriers, internal engineering teams, cybersecurity teams, and program stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
Active U.S. security clearance
Existing DoD 8140 / DCWF 651 Enterprise IT Architect qualification or equivalent evidence
Experience with TACLANE-based network design or encrypted network transport
Enclave infrastructure, classified environment, or air-gapped design experience
Demonstrated skills and experience with Nutanix or similar HCI infrastructure
Experience with enterprise backup, storage, Linux, Kubernetes, or container platform environments
Experience with AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, Microsoft GCC High, Oracle Cloud or other government cloud environments
In-depth HVAC, power and telecom, infrastructure experience
Microsoft 365 administration experience
Experience with infrastructure automation, CloudFormation, Lambda, scripting, or infrastructure-as-code
Experience with SumoLogic or similar logging and telemetry platforms
Experience supporting Azure DevOps build agents, CI/CD infrastructure, or developer platform operations
Experience in defense contracting, government programs, CMMC, NIST 800-171, or other compliance-driven environments
Position Location: Reston, VA (the selected individual will be expected to work onsite in the Reston, VA office)
