Accountabilities: The Account Follow-Up Representative I is responsible for reviewing, researching, and resolving outstanding insurance balances for hospital patient accounts. This role requires strong organization, attention to detail, and effective communication to ensure accounts move efficiently toward resolution while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.

Perform timely follow-up on outstanding patient accounts to support insurance payment resolution.

Verify claim statuses, rebill insurance claims when needed, apply appropriate account updates, and document actions taken.

Manage assigned payer accounts and complete daily account workloads while meeting productivity expectations.

Research unresolved insurance balances and route accounts through the appropriate resolution workflows.

Communicate with insurance companies to resolve payment issues and obtain necessary information.

Review denial reports and unpaid claim reports, taking appropriate action within required timelines.

Maintain accurate account documentation, including research findings and next steps toward resolution.

Recommend account adjustments according to payer requirements and established guidelines.

Collaborate with internal departments and teams to resolve workflow issues and improve account outcomes.

Participate in assigned projects, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Maintain compliance with healthcare privacy requirements, quality standards, and operational procedures.

Respond professionally to emails, calls, messages, and other communications from stakeholders.

Use technology and AI-enabled tools appropriately to improve efficiency, workflow management, and problem-solving.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing healthcare account workflows while communicating effectively with insurance providers and internal teams.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

At least 1 year of experience in a related field; recent completion of medical billing and coding coursework may be considered in place of experience.

Knowledge of computer applications including spreadsheets, word processing, email, and database systems.

Ability to use telephone systems for inbound and outbound communication.

Experience working with protected health information (PHI) while following privacy and security requirements.

Strong mathematical skills and ability to perform accurate calculations.

Excellent communication skills with strong judgment, professionalism, and problem-solving abilities.

Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.

Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment.

Ability to learn new systems quickly and develop proficiency within a short timeframe.

Customer-service mindset with a positive and adaptable approach.

Ability to remain professional and focused in high-pressure situations.

Familiarity with insurance processes, healthcare billing, or revenue cycle operations is a plus.

Comfortable using AI-assisted tools and digital technologies while maintaining appropriate security and compliance standards.

Reliable high-speed internet access with minimum required connection capabilities and unlimited data.
