Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering-related field is preferred
6-10+ years of experience managing projects in manufacturing, industrial, or related environments is required
Job Description:
The Controls Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automated manufacturing systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production operations. This position provides technical expertise for controls, instrumentation, and electrical systems, supporting high-speed production and packaging equipment while driving continuous improvement, equipment reliability, and process optimization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary controls and automation SME for production and packaging operations.
Troubleshoot, maintain, optimize, and improve high-speed manufacturing equipment and automated systems.
Lead advanced diagnostics on PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, and industrial networks.
Maintain machinery, meeting maintenance requirements for 480-volt, 3-phase systems including single phase 120-volt systems to minimize equipment downtime.
Troubleshoots circuits through various control systems such as Panel View 600 & 1000, FactoryTalk View, Allen-Bradley MicroLogix 1000, 1400, CompactLogix, and Control Logix.
Reads technical maintenance manuals and Electrical Schematics as required to address equipment and instrument failures.
Perform inspections and preventive maintenance of process control instrumentation.
Performs test and calibrations of process control instruments.
Installs instrumentation including but not limited to: Controllers, Flowmeters, level controls, displays, PLCs, and Ink Jet Coding equipment.
Use knowledge of electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, electro-mechanics, PLC based controls, and motor-drive control systems to quickly solve production breakdowns.
Lead root cause failure investigations and implement sustainable corrective actions.
Identify and execute continuous improvement projects to increase OEE, throughput, and reliability.
Participate in capital projects, equipment upgrades, commissioning, and controls modernization efforts.
Support junior technicians and provide technical leadership across the maintenance organization.
Maintain technical documentation, calibration records, and preventive maintenance programs.
All other tasks or duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Effective communication: ability to convey technical information in a relatable manner.
Attention to detail; demonstrate passion for accuracy in both minor and significant workstreams.
Understands ladder logic as it applies to the various processors in the production floor.
Must understand the theory and operation of Variable Frequency Drives with an emphasis on Allen Bradley Power Flex, 40 & 525.
Basic understanding of Network Topology and strong controls troubleshooting skill over Ethernet IP, Control Net, Device Net and Asi networks is a plus.
Ability to diagnose and communicate problems, root causes and short/long term solutions.
Ability to step outside comfort zone to experience a wide range of troubleshooting opportunities.
Proven experience operating DMM, Megger, Clamp Amp meter, HART Communicator, and Multi-process Calibrator.
Must Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull heavy objects and equipment weighing 50 lbs. or more multiple times per day.
Must have unrestricted ability to repetitiously bend at the waist, stoop, crouch, reach, and stand on hard surfaces for extended periods.
