AP Accountant
The Accountant is responsible for supporting accurate and timely financial reporting and accounting activities for the French business. This role will manage general ledger processes, reconciliations, month-end close activities, statutory requirements, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of French accounting practices, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a multinational environment. Responsibilities Prepare and post standard, recurring, and adjusting journal entries in accordance with French accounting principles and internal policies.
Perform balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate and resolve outstanding items.
Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial results.
Prepare and review trial balances, profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, and supporting schedules.
Analyse financial variances and provide clear explanations for significant movements.
Maintain the French chart of accounts and ensure the accuracy and integrity of finance master data.
Record and reconcile intercompany transactions, including the investigation and resolution of differences.
Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, and other general ledger activities as required.
Prepare VAT returns and support other French tax and statutory reporting requirements in collaboration with external advisers where appropriate.
Ensure compliance with French GAAP, applicable tax regulations, company accounting policies, and internal controls.
Prepare audit documentation and respond to queries from internal and external auditors.
Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation in line with legal and company requirements.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, reporting, and operational efficiency.
Collaborate with Finance, Tax, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and other cross-functional teams.
Undertake other relevant accounting duties and projects as required.
Required Qualifications and Skills Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Relevant professional qualification or studies, such as DCG, DSCG, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent, is preferred.
2–5 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally within a French or multinational business environment.
Strong knowledge of French GAAP, French VAT, statutory accounting, and general ledger processes.
Experience supporting month-end and year-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Proficiency with ERP or accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or equivalent platforms.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with financial data and reporting tools.
Fluency in French and strong English proficiency, both written and spoken.
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining reliable financial records.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, organisational, and time management skills.
Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across different countries.
