About the Team The StraitsX legal team sits within the wider Fazz group, a highly collaborative group of 10+ lawyers across Singapore and Indonesia. We support the launch and scaling of regulated fintech products across payments, e-money, cross-border transfers, and blockchain-powered payments, including the issuance of XSGD and XUSD. StraitsX operates as a MAS-licensed Major Payment Institution and issues regulated stablecoins under the MAS stablecoin framework. The Fazz group holds other licences from Bank Indonesia and OJK. The Legal Team is proud to be recognised for our legal and regulatory work: Blockchain In-House Team of the Year, winner (ALB SE Asia Law Awards 2025)

About the Role As an Associate Legal Counsel, you will work closely with senior members of the Legal Team, the Compliance and Commercial team to support StraitsX’s regulated activities in Singapore and its cross-border expansion. This is a dual role: you will get real exposure to both regulatory work and commercial contracting, weighted roughly 60% regulatory and 40% commercial. Most in-house roles force you to pick a lane. This one is built so you own both.

On the regulatory side, in Singapore you are the team’s day-to-day PSA/PSR resource, advising the business on what products and features trigger, supporting licensing and variation work, and shaping our positions to MAS, including on the stablecoin framework as it applies to XSGD and XUSD. Beyond Singapore, you get global exposure - e.g. market studies and market-entry analysis for new territories, running end-to-end licensing projects, comparing regulatory frameworks across markets, horizon-scanning what’s coming in payments and digital-asset regulation, and policy advocacy with regulators and industry, across markets such as US, EU/Malta, UAE, and ADGM.

On the commercial side you will draft/review and negotiate merchant, partner, outsourcing, and technology agreements, plus user-facing terms, and you will do it with the regulatory obligations in view rather than as a separate exercise.

We promise you will have a high level of autonomy and ownership. You must be comfortable reasoning from first principles in areas where the regulatory treatment is still unsettled, for example novel stablecoin use cases or new cross-border corridors.

The role suits someone with a genuine interest in payments regulation and digital assets, coupled with strong ownership across projects and the temperament to move fast without dropping rigour.

What You Will Do Advise product and business teams on the regulatory obligations triggered by new products, features, and potential partnerships, and help design a defensive flow from a regulatory standpoint, mapping each to the correct regulated activity by reference to the First Schedule definitions and applying the MAS stablecoin framework to XSGD and XUSD, including reserve, redemption, and disclosure obligations.

Provide regulatory advisory to the Compliance team to support ongoing regulatory compliance, including drafting and reviewing responses to regulators such as consultation paper submissions and information requests. Regulatory here is broad: not just the PSA but data protection and every other applicable framework, and engagement not just with MAS but with the SPF and any other regulatory or investigative body.

Lead policy advocacy for the business: drafting position papers and engaging regulators and industry to advocate for regulatory changes and amendments, grounded in StraitsX's business and commercial rationale.

Run the regulatory groundwork for cross-border expansion: market studies and market-entry analysis, end-to-end licensing projects, and comparison of regulatory frameworks to inform where and how we enter new markets.

Horizon-scan developments in payments, stablecoin, and digital-asset regulation so the business is positioned ahead of change, not reacting to it.

Draft, negotiate, and advise on the commercial agreements that support regulated products: merchant, partner, banking, outsourcing, technology, and data agreements, plus user-facing Terms of Service, keeping each consistent with our regulatory obligations.

Review marketing, product, and customer-facing materials for compliance with the PSA, PSN01/PSN02, PDPA, and internal policy, and give practical, actionable guidance to non-legal teams.

Make pragmatic legal risk assessments that weigh regulatory exposure against business priorities, and offer workable mitigations rather than blanket no.

Work  closely with Commercial, Product, Compliance, Finance and Operations  teams to understand the risks and ensure their needs and requirements are accurately reflected in agreements.

Respond timely to inquiries from all teams regarding contractual obligations and commitments; ensure that contractual matters are addressed efficiently and promptly.

Assist with the development and implementation of contract procedures, legal tools and templates to improve operational efficiency.

Maintain accurate, up-to-date statutory registers, minute books, and corporate records across all group entities, and continuously update group entity structure charts, document changes in ownership, capitalisation, directorships, and officer appointments.

Liaise with our external service providers and co-ordinate routine filings, and assist with drafting board resolutions, shareholders’ meetings, organising board meetings and shareholders’ meetings as well as any other meetings required for corporate governance purpose.

What we are looking for Embodies the StraitsX behaviours: obsessed with what we do, takes real ownership of outcomes, and communicates openly and directly across the team. You treat the mission as your own and do not wait to be told what needs doing.

Qualified lawyer with 0 to 2 years of experience, from a law firm (corporate, financial services, or regulatory) or in-house. A background or genuine interest in fintech, payments, or digital assets is a plus, but we care more about aptitude and drive than years on the clock.

A solid grounding in Singapore legal and regulatory principles, with the appetite to go deep on payments and digital-asset regulation. Prior PSA/PSR or MAS exposure is welcome but not required; we will teach the rest. This will require you to possess strong research and written analysis skills, and the ability to take a messy regulatory question and turn it into a clear and actionable answer for product and business teams.

A practical / first-principles approach to novel legal questions. Much of this work has no settled answer, so you reason it through from the ground up and still land on a workable path rather than defaulting to no, balancing governance against the pace of a scaling business.

We will assume the fundamentals are in place - you write well, you are meticulous, and your formatting never goes rogue. What we will say out loud is that you must be tech-curious: happy to poke at new legal tech and workspace tools rather than flinching at anything that is not a Word document.
