Senior Software Engineer (PHP/ Ruby on Rails) - Finance

Accountabilities: Lead the incremental migration strategy from legacy systems to modern implementations, including planning user and data migrations, rollout processes, and rollback strategies.

Analyze existing PHP-based systems to understand functional requirements, document behaviors, validate feature parity, and prevent regressions during migration.

Take ownership of a critical business domain, developing foundational testing strategies, monitoring capabilities, and technical documentation.

Design, develop, review, and architect software solutions while continuously migrating features without impacting product delivery.

Drive improvements in system reliability, scalability, and maintainability through strong engineering practices.

Make strategic technical decisions that balance immediate migration priorities with long-term architectural goals.

Collaborate closely with distributed development teams to ensure effective communication, knowledge transfer, and alignment.

Investigate complex technical challenges and transform ambiguous requirements into effective engineering solutions.

Requirements:

5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with strong backend development expertise.

Advanced experience with PHP and meaningful experience working with Ruby or Ruby on Rails.

Proven experience analyzing, modifying, and safely migrating large-scale production systems with limited test coverage and incomplete documentation.

Strong background in complex system migrations, requirements reconstruction, and end-to-end delivery of technical initiatives.

Ability to work independently, make high-impact technical decisions, and operate effectively with incomplete information.

Experience with software architecture, testing strategies, monitoring, and scalable system design.

Familiarity with MySQL/Aurora databases and AWS environments is a plus.

Previous experience in fintech, payments, dispute resolution, or related financial technology domains is highly valued.

Availability to work full-time while overlapping with US or Canada time zones.

Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within global, distributed teams.
