VFX project manager

Position Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing steel detailing projects from award through final completion. This role acts as the primary liaison between clients, detailers, engineers, fabricators, and internal staff to ensure projects are completed accurately, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards.

The Project Manager coordinates detailing resources, manages project schedules, reviews production progress, resolves technical issues, and maintains strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage multiple steel detailing projects simultaneously.
• Develop and maintain project schedules and milestone tracking.
• Coordinate project kick-off meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
• Monitor project progress and proactively address schedule risks.
• Ensure all project deliverables meet contractual requirements and deadlines.
• Track project budgets, labor hours, and overall profitability.

Client Communication

• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, fabricators, contractors, and consultants.
• Attend project meetings and provide status updates.
• Review incoming project information including IFC drawings, addenda, RFIs, and revisions.
• Manage scope changes and communicate impacts on schedule and cost.
• Maintain strong professional relationships with customers.

Technical Coordination

• Work closely with detailers, checkers, and modeling staff to resolve technical issues.
• Review project specifications, structural drawings, and fabrication requirements.
• Coordinate drawing and model releases with fabrication and erection schedules.
• Ensure compliance with AISC, CISC, CSA, and project-specific standards.
• Facilitate communication between engineering, fabrication, and detailing teams.

Quality Control

• Ensure all drawings and models undergo appropriate QC procedures.
• Monitor detailing accuracy and adherence to company standards.
• Review checker comments and oversee corrective actions.
• Promote continuous improvement of detailing processes and workflows.

Team Leadership

• Assign workload and priorities to detailing staff.
• Mentor junior detailers and support professional development.
• Assist with recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable team environment.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain organized project records and correspondence.
• Generate weekly project status reports.
• Track RFIs, field issues, change orders, and drawing revisions.
• Ensure proper document control throughout the project lifecycle.

Experience

• Minimum 10 years of structural steel detailing experience.
• Minimum 2-3 years of project management experience in steel detailing, fabrication, or construction.
• Experience using Tekla Structures is required.
• Experience working with structural steel fabrication shops is preferred.

Technical Skills

• Advanced knowledge of Tekla Structures.
• Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection practices.
• Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.
• Familiarity with CISC, CSA, and AISC standards.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project tracking software.
