Position Summary

The Industrial Painting Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating industrial painting, coating, and surface preparation crews on construction, manufacturing, utility, energy, and industrial projects. This role ensures all painting and coating activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and client requirements. The Industrial Painting Foreman provides leadership in the field, oversees productivity and workmanship, and serves as the primary point of contact between crews, inspectors, and project management.

Essential Responsibilities

Supervise and direct industrial painting and coating crews on assigned projects.

Plan and coordinate daily work activities, manpower, materials, equipment, and project schedules.

Review project specifications, coating requirements, drawings, and work packages.

Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce company, client, and regulatory safety requirements.

Ensure proper surface preparation activities, including abrasive blasting, power tool cleaning, pressure washing, and coating removal.

Monitor application of industrial coatings, primers, sealants, and specialty finishes to ensure compliance with project specifications.

Verify environmental conditions, coating thickness, curing requirements, and quality standards.

Coordinate access equipment including scaffolding, lifts, man baskets, and fall protection systems.

Inspect completed work and ensure compliance with project quality requirements and coating specifications.

Maintain production schedules and monitor crew productivity to meet project deadlines.

Coordinate material deliveries, inventory, and proper storage of paints, coatings, and blasting materials.

Ensure all equipment, tools, spray units, compressors, and blasting equipment are maintained and operated safely.

Communicate project status, labor needs, material requirements, and field issues to project management.

Maintain daily reports, production records, timesheets, and quality documentation.

Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members to promote safety, quality, and professional development.

Assist with inspections and audits by clients, quality personnel, and regulatory agencies.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

5+ years of industrial painting, coatings, sandblasting, or surface preparation experience.

2+ years of supervisory or foreman experience.

Strong knowledge of industrial coating systems, painting methods, and surface preparation requirements.

Experience with airless spray equipment, conventional spray systems, brushes, rollers, and blasting equipment.

Ability to read and interpret project drawings, specifications, coating schedules, and technical data sheets.

Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety requirements.

Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Ability to pass required pre-employment, background, and client-specific screenings.

Preferred Qualifications

NACE Coating Inspector Certification (Level 1 or higher).

AMPP (Association for Materials Protection and Performance) certifications.

OSHA 30 Certification.

Experience with power generation, oil and gas, mining, utility, manufacturing, or heavy industrial projects.

Knowledge of SSPC/NACE surface preparation and coating standards.

Experience managing subcontractors and multiple painting crews.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding conditions for extended periods.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.

Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and around industrial equipment when required.

Ability to wear respiratory protection and other required PPE.

Ability to work overtime, weekends, and travel as necessary.

Work Environment

Industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, power generation sites, refineries, utility projects, and construction sites.

Exposure to paint fumes, abrasive blasting operations, noise, dust, chemicals, and varying weather conditions.

Work may be performed indoors, outdoors, at heights, or in confined spaces.
