Beta Technologies is looking for a Materials and Processes Composites Engineer (M&P) to join the team developing and manufacturing vertical takeoff, electric aircraft (eVTOL). This role is specific to supporting composite development and fabrication. The ideal candidate is someone who has M&P experience in aerospace composites, experience in product development and excellent collaborative skills. The ability to guide design teams, manufacturing teams, and suppliers in the development/manufacturing of the aircraft is essential.

The ability to think outside the box and a strong mechanical intuition are important to troubleshoot design challenges and manufacturing issues. Experience in a clean room and lab environment are important to this position, and you’ll be expected to be present in the composites facilities to support production, as well as the lab. As an M&P Engineer you will be required to qualify materials, develop processes, improve manufacturing processes, work with quality, disposition NCR’s, and audit both internal and supplier facilities.

You will also be involved in R&D activities and consequently the writing of test plans and overseeing test execution. Testing will include material qualification, process development, component development, optimize manufacturability and anything else along the path of developing and efficiently manufacturing the aircraft.

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:

Guide and support the various design teams in the development of composite aircraft components

Collaborate with suppliers for materials, components, equipment, etc.

Develop new processes and test new materials

Work with manufacturing teams to optimize manufacturability of composite parts, reduce cycle time and provide equipment requirements

Work with quality to implement controls for materials, processes and operator training

Audit internal and external facilities

Write and review engineering documents/drawings, material specifications and process specifications

Coordinate and carry out material and process qualifications

Write test plans and execute testing

Participate in design reviews

Support first article inspections

Support conformity activities

Troubleshoot engineering and manufacturing issues

This position requires travel for manufacturing support and supplier audits

Minimum Qualifications:

At least a Bachelor’s degree focused in either Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgy, Materials or Aerospace Engineering

Minimum of 5 years aerospace experience in composite materials. Ideally 10+ years

Experience auditing and suppliers and internal facilities

Strong knowledge of industry specifications for materials, processes, testing and quality

Experience writing specifications, generating test plans, overseeing and executing testing and writing test reports

Strong problem solving skills and outside the box thinker

Enjoys coaching and teaching and has solid collaborative skills

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with both internal & external customers

High energy, self-motived, organized and detail-oriented

Proficient at learning new tools and new software

A passion for all that is aerospace

Experience in product development and supporting certification is an asset

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This position requires a mix of office-based work and time spent in lab, hangar, or manufacturing environments. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions

Ability to walk, stand, and move through production, test, or hangar areas as needed

Occasional lifting of equipment or materials up to 25 pounds

Occasional travel to suppliers, test sites, or partner facilities may be required

Exposure to typical aerospace prototyping environments including noise, tools, and test equipment

The wage listed here reflects our best faith estimate for this role. We pay competitively and base compensation on a variety of factors including skills, experience, industry background, and the evolving needs of the role. Compensation $100,000 — $140,000 USD
