Accountabilities: As a Staff Software Engineer, Full-Stack, you will lead technical initiatives while remaining deeply involved in implementation, architecture, and engineering excellence. Your responsibilities will include: Owning and evolving the platform architecture by assessing existing systems, identifying improvements, and driving technical decisions across data layers, APIs, frontend applications, and deployment infrastructure. Building and maintaining production-quality applications across the full stack using technologies such as React, TypeScript, Node.js/NestJS, PostgreSQL, and AWS. Designing scalable multi-tenant systems with strong approaches to tenant isolation, data partitioning, role-based access control, and configurable workflows. Embedding security principles throughout the development process, including authentication, authorization, encryption, validation, API protection, and compliance readiness. Improving system performance through profiling, benchmarking, optimization of database queries, caching strategies, frontend performance, monitoring, and alerting. Architecting solutions that support future growth through scalable infrastructure, asynchronous processing, load management, and efficient resource utilization. Establishing engineering standards, best practices, development patterns, and quality expectations that support future team growth. Mentoring engineers through design reviews, technical collaboration, code reviews, and knowledge sharing. Evaluating and adopting modern engineering tools, including AI-assisted development solutions, to improve productivity and development workflows. Staying current with emerging trends in software engineering, infrastructure, AI development tools, and technical practices. Supporting broader team initiatives when needed, including DevOps improvements, debugging, customer issues, hiring activities, and other engineering priorities. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced full-stack engineer with strong architectural expertise, a security-focused mindset, and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment. You should bring: 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience building scalable full-stack web applications. Proven experience working in high-ambiguity environments where priorities shift quickly and engineers take ownership of outcomes. Deep knowledge of modern web technologies, with expertise across areas such as React, TypeScript, Node.js/NestJS, PostgreSQL, and AWS. Demonstrated ability to define system architecture, make foundational technical decisions, and improve existing platforms. Strong understanding of application security principles, including OWASP Top 10, authentication, authorization, threat modeling, and secure system design. Experience identifying and resolving performance challenges across databases, APIs, frontend applications, and infrastructure. Strong product delivery mindset with the ability to balance technical excellence and pragmatic execution. Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, or similar solutions, with the ability to evaluate their practical benefits and limitations. Strong ownership mentality with the ability to proactively identify problems, propose solutions, and drive initiatives independently. Experience in healthcare, biotech, life sciences, or clinical/research data platforms is preferred. Experience working in early-stage or growth-stage companies with limited resources and fast iteration cycles is a plus. Familiarity with developer-facing APIs, platform engineering, event-driven architectures, CQRS, domain-driven design, infrastructure-as-code, or CI/CD practices is preferred. Experience with security audits, penetration testing, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance processes is beneficial. Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor engineers while collaborating effectively across teams. Benefits: Fully remote work environment. Opportunity to make a direct impact within a small, highly collaborative engineering team. Ownership of significant technical decisions and platform architecture. Ability to work on challenging problems involving scalability, security, performance, and modern software development. Opportunity to influence engineering practices, standards, and future technical direction. Exposure to cutting-edge AI-assisted development tools and emerging technologies. Collaborative culture focused on learning, ownership, and continuous improvement. Opportunity to work on technology supporting impactful healthcare and life sciences initiatives.
