Accountabilities: The Professional Coding Specialist II - Anesthesia is responsible for accurately reviewing medical documentation, assigning appropriate codes, and supporting compliant billing processes. The role requires strong knowledge of coding standards, attention to detail, and effective collaboration with healthcare providers and operational teams.

Review medical records to identify diagnoses, procedures, and services requiring accurate ICD-10, CPT, and modifier coding assignments.

Ensure timely and accurate coding, charging, and abstraction of assigned anesthesia-related accounts.

Analyze documentation to support appropriate reimbursement, compliance requirements, severity reporting, and risk adjustment processes.

Communicate with physicians and healthcare professionals to obtain clarification and additional information required for accurate coding.

Monitor provider documentation quality, conduct audits, and provide education or feedback to improve coding accuracy.

Research and resolve missing charges, billing issues, and problematic accounts in collaboration with revenue cycle teams.

Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge through training sessions, seminars, internal meetings, and ongoing review of coding guidelines.

Support compliance initiatives by following healthcare regulations, coding standards, and organizational policies.

Maintain productivity and quality standards while managing multiple priorities in a detail-oriented environment.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a certified medical coding professional with experience interpreting clinical documentation and applying coding standards in healthcare settings. Strong analytical skills, communication abilities, and knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology are essential for success in this role.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Current medical coding certification through an approved organization such as AHIMA or AAPC.

Minimum of two years of medical coding experience.

Experience with physician office coding preferred.

Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, modifiers, coding guidelines, and healthcare reimbursement processes.

Understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and clinical documentation practices.

Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy during interruptions and high-volume workflows.

Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and make sound decisions.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with providers and internal teams.

Ability to adapt to changing processes, maintain productivity standards, and manage time effectively.
