Summary
Answers call lights to determine resident needs. Bathes, dresses, and undresses residents and assists with personal hygiene to increase their comfort and well-being. Assists residents using wheelchair and/or assists them to walk. Maintains the residents’ rooms in orderly fashion. Serves and collects food trays from bed residents. Feeds residents requiring help; provides between meal nourishments; provides fresh drinking water. Transports residents to the Dining Room, Rehabilitation, and various other programs. Takes and records temperatures, weight, intake and output and other procedures as directed by the nurse in charge including trimming and cleaning of toenails and fingernails (except for diabetic residents) and other procedures. Reports all unusual conditions or reactions to the nurse in charge. Cleans, stores, and prepares various nursing supplies used. May be assigned other duties as appropriate.
Job Qualifications
High school diploma preferred, but not required
Must participate in on-the-job training programs
Must be Certified Nursing Assistant or complete the Certified Nurses Assistant program within time frame mandated by law
Long-term care experience preferred
Verbal ability required to communicate with residents and visitors and to understand instructions received from nursing staff
Must have interest in performing services, kindness and compassion for geriatric residents
Must be able to perform a variety of activities characterized by the long-term duration of caring for geriatric residents
Must be able to lift and transfer residents with assistance of other staff and mechanical lifts, push residents, carts and wheelchairs
Visual acuity needed for accurate reading of gauges, thermometers, taking of blood pressure, recording on resident's charts, and distinguishing color
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
Ability to lift heavy objects using proper lifting techniques and with assistance as necessary
Ability to transfer and move residents who vary with ability weighing 200+lbs using proper lifting techniques and with assistance as necessary
Ability to push and pull equipment weighing in excess of 40lbs using proper techniques and with assistance as necessary
Manual dexterity, coordination and skillful use of hands when working with patients and equipment
Ability to perform necessary documentation in writing or electronically
Pay range : $16.00 per hour
