You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR I in the Production Resources Department (900), Drydock & Environmental Services Branch (900F13), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major duties

  • You will plan the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials and tools provided for assigned units of work.
  • You will maintain close observation and control of all work operations.
  • You will provide expert advice and guidance on industrial equipment mechanic, electrical and engine and pump operator, processes and trade skills to management and mixed trades supervisor on assigned projects.
  • You will execute the work assigned in accordance with the production schedule established by the zone manager.

Qualifications

The ability to apply knowledge of the methods, techniques, processes, procedures, tools, materials and practices of the industrial equipment mechanics, electricians, HV electricians, pipefitters, sheetmetal mechanics, air conditioning equipment mechanics, and engine and pump operators The ability to maintain a working knowledge of drydock electrical and mechanical machinery, operation, maintenance, overhaul and repair of various types of mechanical equipment, including valves, bilge pumps, drainage pumps, main dewatering pumps, capstans, caissons, sluice gates, stop logs and controls and alarm systems of various types. The ability to display technical accountability (responsibility) for the quality and quantity of the work performed by subordinates The ability to be proficient in the evaluation of skills of team members and must know when to seek guidance and advice from the trade H.V. electricians, pipefitters, sheetmetal mechanic, air conditioning equipment mechanics, and environmental expert or trade supervisor contact for the assigned project Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
