Accountabilities: The Director, Consumer Identity Technology will own the strategy, execution, and evolution of a large-scale consumer identity platform. This role requires a hands-on technology leader who can balance operational excellence, architectural innovation, and team development while delivering secure and frictionless authentication experiences.

Own the roadmap and delivery strategy for the consumer identity platform, including authentication, identity services, account recovery, and identity verification capabilities.

Lead and scale multiple engineering teams, including identity engineering groups and global support functions across distributed locations.

Ensure reliability, security, monitoring, and continuous improvement of identity systems supporting millions of consumer accounts.

Drive the transition toward unified identity experiences across digital platforms, creating seamless and secure customer journeys.

Explore and implement emerging authentication technologies, including passwordless, passkeys, phishing-resistant authentication, and future identity innovations.

Establish AI-native engineering practices that improve development velocity, testing effectiveness, and engineering productivity.

Define the next architectural evolution of the identity platform, including identity server strategy, platform resilience, and third-party dependency management.

Own relationships with key technology vendors and make strategic build-versus-buy decisions aligned with business goals.

Develop a clear staffing strategy, balancing internal engineering capabilities and external delivery partnerships.

Mentor and grow engineering leaders, creating opportunities for team members to expand their technical and leadership responsibilities.

Partner with fraud, product security, member services, mobile, UX, and other stakeholders to align identity initiatives with organizational priorities.

Translate business objectives into scalable technical strategies, execution plans, and measurable outcomes.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a seasoned engineering leader with deep expertise in consumer identity platforms, distributed systems, and modern authentication technologies. Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, experience leading large engineering organizations, and the ability to innovate within a regulated environment.

10+ years of experience in software or platform engineering with progressive leadership responsibilities.

Proven experience leading multiple engineering teams or engineering pods simultaneously, ideally within blended onshore and offshore environments.

Direct experience with Consumer Identity and Access Management (CIAM), including identity servers, OAuth2, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SSO, JWT-based authentication, and passwordless/passkey technologies such as FIDO2 and WebAuthn.

Demonstrated ownership of production-scale identity or API platforms requiring strong operational reliability and architectural discipline.

Experience building and maintaining secure platforms in highly regulated industries such as healthcare, fintech, or financial services.

Strong understanding of authentication trends and enthusiasm for shaping the future of digital identity and consumer trust.

Experience evaluating vendors, managing technology partnerships, and making complex architecture decisions.

Ability to drive execution across cross-functional teams without direct authority.

Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Experience applying AI-assisted software development tools and incorporating AI practices into engineering workflows.
